transmission problems

Took my MSP into the dealer, told me my spider gear assembly exploded, most likely due to the bad winter driving conditions. I've been told the $1800 the dealer wants to charge for a used transmission is a rip off. any body have a transmission for the msp in the chicagoland area???

It's the same transmission as that on any other 3rd gen Protege, except the MSP has a LSD in it. If your LSD was unaffected by the failure, then you can just get a regular Protege transmission and have them swap over the LSD.
