Yeah, that is basically what the article I linked said. The only time you will see gains is when you move from a fuel with an octane rating too low for the engine in your car to one that is high enough or higher than what it was designed for.
I didn't think that octane was a big deal in the winter as it is my understanding the fuel is some how whored-up for the colder temps. I was always told that a higher grade is better for summer use because it would help prevent pinging. Maybe I should consider going to the mid-grade?
that's why I said, if you get the MP3 ECU then get 93, you can also get away with using 91, otherwise don't bother. I still stay away from GE gas, but that's just me
i advanced the timing on the 3 and still run 87, as long as it doesnt ping there is no reason to run anything else
glad im not the only one... im lucky to hit 270 on a tank from GE, and BP or Sunoco im pulling much better mileage... GE gas is rubbish
i ONLY use it if i have over 50 cents off a gallon then with the savings that once i can deal with the hit to the fuel mileage haha
How did you advance the timing on your 3?
How did you advance the timing on your 3?
Hmm... It just seems like a futile gesture since the ECU will just advance/retard the timing appropriately anyways. Same reason the Miata guys don't mess with the timing in NBs.
Yep, the guy talking about spending a little extra dough on NCAP rated seats designed with features specifically to work forward facing down to 20 lbs (both of ours are heavier) was the one being totally blase. You got me (rolleyes).
If you can't see any difference between the new recommendations on when to (which just changed this year...)
Highest Harness Capacity Available
At 90 pounds, the ProSPORT has the highest weight capacity available today using a 5-Point Harness System.
Oh I know, Evan was.I'm not saying your are "blase"...
Proteges have knock sensors. When you put in premium fuel it detects it, and advances the timing. The more the timing is advanced with higher grade fuel, the greater the combustion. More efficient combustion leads to better power and better efficiency.
I'm comparing between premium and regular fuels on a certain car, not 2 different cars or ecus
no you didn't. you experienced the placebo effect, possibly due to a subconscious change in driving style.I'm just saying that for a month this summer I switched from 87 to 93 and noticed a very significant increase in power and fuel economy.
