Synthetic Oil

Hey! You All!

Has your dealership give you a hard time about using synthetic oil, mine is stating that Mazda does not recommend using this oil due to their variable valve system. Has anyone change their oil to synthetic and have you seen any problems. I've had 2 other turbo vehicles prior of this one and have always used synthetic and never had any problem and the reason that I change it is due to the turbo temperature is lower with synthetic which runs better.

They can't give you a hard time as long as it meets the specific classifications and oil weight listed in the manual.

Plus, synthetic is pretty much necessary for this car anywhere that it's cold started due to the fact that Mazda doesn't offer a block heater for it.

the guy at my dealer said that is bs, varible valve system does not require reg. oil who ever told you that is full of it. Synthetic oil ijust oil that is refined to have the best oil moliclues in it, stable molecules, most oil molcules have 4 to 7 electrons so they grab dirt to comlete them selves this makes the oil dirty and cuases friction not to mention bieng unstable reduces the ability of the to aborb heat, synthtic oil is artificially made oil to have all 8 electrons, this means all the moleculse are stable, lubricate better absorb heat better and dont hold dirt and grime in your engine these alre all good things and do not hurt the valves.

Thanks for the info, I'll basically tell them that I want it and that's it.

Also, this weekend while watching Motor Week, they were talking about our vehicle which was good but when it came to mpg, they rated it at 20 mpg average with an awd. The weird part was that they stated that they use regular gas?? I thought our ECL would come on over time with regular gas.

It is really too bad that self appointed experts at the dealer service level give out erroneous service opinions. Mazda uses a synthetic blend at the factory. Ed

I got the same yesterday when i brought the 7 in for the and oil change. The is our first turbo but i have other friends who all use synthetic. We use it in our protege and my motorcycle without any problems. Also got the flash done yesterday. Much better on the low end. Not night and day but an improvement.

Waiting to hear back from Mazda Corp, since the dealership might try to use this against me later on if a warranty issue occurs. Let you know what they say.

At 600 miles, I took my -7 in for its first oil change. I took along a 5 liter jug of Mobil1 10W-30 and told them to put it in. No argument, no hassle. They've been using "my" oil for 15k miles. I think your dealer is trying to screw you into using their oil. Find another dealer.

FWIW, I've used Mobil1 exclusively in several vehicles since '97. My Miata has over 120K miles and is still strong. I get 22-24+ mpg on the road in the -7. No financial connection, etc. It's just Good Stuff.

here is the deal. If you want to go longer between changes syn is where it's at. But for a street driven stock car, dino oil is just fine if you change it every 3500 miles. Don't waste your dinero just to say you use syn oil.

Royal Purple is a whole different story.

Slightly off topic but, at about 10,000 miles(third oil change) I get a " Used OIl Analysis @ Blackstone Labs". The UOA gives me a reference as to how well the engine has bedded in and if the oil is holding up under my usage. Anyone else this much into their hobbie?

Finally heared back from Mazda and they said that it's ok to use synthetic oil as long as it meets their weight standard, meaning 10W40 and so on, can't recall the actual weight velocity that they recommend so don't go by what I wrote. So tomorrow I'm scheduling an appointment with my dealership for an oil change and they can't say no.

The prefered oil for my CX7 is 5w30 and I will be using Mobil 1 or PP 5w30. Ed

Call me jaded or a cynic, but how do you know they are actually putting that oil in your car?

A 5 quart/litre jug will not fill a CX7 as it takes 6 quarts-so says my manual. I wonder if they added one quart of no-name bulk oil to the 5 quarts of Mobil 1?
