got some new rims and having a problem...

when i have alot of people... like 2+ in the car ..my rear tires rubb on the wheelwell the part where the outside body curves in towards the wheelwell

if you go and feel on the lip its like a L shapped lip not like the front wheelwell that lip is cutting up my tires

so im asking is there any suspension kits that stiffen the coils so my car can hold more weight and wont chopp up my tires

yeah i agree. from first look those wheels are too big. i'm guessing you have an 0ffset of like 42 or so which isn't great to use on thses cars. 45mm is pushing it. 48mm to 50mm is ideal. are those 19's?????
 
i wouldnt say 45 is pushing it, because thats what i have. but 42 is going to be hard unless you have a sedan. since ive never seen those wheels before, id bet you bought them fromn wheelmax or something, which normalyl has 40-42 offset for our cars.
 
only thing to do now is to either roll the little L lip that you are feeling or cut it off, or as a last option is get different wheels. Ive always heard fit the wheels to the car, not the car to the wheels. You should be able to find a good shop somewhere around that uses a good lip roller that attaches to the lug bolts.

dont forget that wheel width effects offset. so certain offsets will work with 7" wide wheels that will not work with a 7.5" wheel
 
In short: looks like you're in the market for some new rims.

PS: 45 offset isn't pushing it, as you can run 42 with a rolled fender on a p5. My 5zigens are 45.
 
i should have mentioned for those who dont want to roll the fenders. i know 42 will work but its close especially if you are lowering it quite a bit.
 
FL, if you want to keep those rims you will have to roll your fenders. Like MikeBlueP5 said take it to a shop with a fender roller shouldnt cost you too much. I am running 18" by 7.5" 40mm offset wheels and they fit with no rubbing when lowered much more than you are.

Number one....the offset will depend on the width of your wheel....but most of the larger diameter wheels are 7.5.....so there are some where a 45 offset is fine...it just depends on if you are rolling on 7's or 7.5's....and whether you have 205 or 215 tires....it all adds up.

There is another option that will allow you to NOT roll your fenders...and that is to find a good machine shop that deals with wheels and have them machine 2 or 3 mm off of the back of the mating surface of the wheel...where it mounts onto your disc. that way is sucks your wheel in a little more and you don't have to roll your fenders.

what is the meaning of an offset?

it is the distance in mm from the center line of the wheel to where the wheel attaches to the rotor/hub. so to clarify if you had a 7in wide rim w/ a "0" offset the wheel would be mounted exactly at the centerline of the wheel. if you had a 42mm offset (7in rim) the wheel would be mounted 42 mm past the centerline. the offset dictates how far in or out the wheel will protrude in the wheel well. but dont forget it is in conjunction w/ thw width of the wheel as stated by the other guys.

if you had two of the same size wheels but with a 40mm offset and the other w/ a 50mm offset the one with the lesser offset will be pushed out further to the side of the car thereby giving a wider track. the other wheel will sit more under the car. hope that makes sense.
 
gotta go and find out whats my offset and i went got the fender rolled it helped out...when i hit a big bump it hits but it doesnt eat up my tires so thats good...till i find a solution im watching the bumps on the road

Yup, i ran into the same problem. I had 18x7.5's with 215/35/18 tires, 42 offset. and with passengers, i would rub over dips and bumps, so i went the selling my wheels route! Got 18x7.5 but a 48 offset... same tires, fixed the passenger rubbing problem... So then i dropped my car about 1 3/4... still no rubbing on dips, but when i turn sharp, she rubs still... so i think ima go roll the old fenders... scared my paint will chip! the shop said that they are scared that either my paint will chip, or the upper part of the fender will bow, because the lip is so small already! Anyone have any thoughts?

if you have the shop do it make sure they warranty their work otherwise you could get screwed
 
Heat is your friend when it comes to keeping paint from chipping. but a good shop should know this.
 
yup heat and a good roller (Ie- one that attaches to the lug studs, not a hammer) will do you wonders.

Anyone from So. Cali know any places???? Need to do this SOON! I'm tired of driving my car like a bi-atch, all slow in the corners! HELP!
