Sub Blew :(

my rubber surround came off too but i never had it above +3 on the NF, but u know whats wierd, and im literally the only one that drives the car but sometimes when i get in, and this is random, i notice its boomin, and i check the settings and the bass is at +6???!?!? wtf. no one drives it but me at the moment, and i certainly dont put it that high. its odd.

Yeah that's kind of weird. I guess your radio's possessed. It's the ghost of Kenwoods past! Ha ha can't wait for Christmas. Just two more months.(dance)

I just recently realized that each radio input has it's own audio settings(radio,cd, aux input, etc.). That was causing some confusion for me. I don't know if maybe that is part of your problem.

actually not for me, i leave it on user preset but i rifled through the others and none of them have +6 bass for the preset setting either, so i dunno. its not a biggie but its kinda anoyying to be honest.

thats fuggin nutz... NF @ +3 holly crap! Yeah for some apparent reason, when I have to adjust the bass once n a while, the settings go all haywire. and I know for sure I didn't even touch the eq settings. There were times where my bass would be at +6 and I wouldn't even know why. Then the NF would get all weird and put itself @ -3. WTF???

H-Town, how did you setup your settings for your fiance's Speed... I would love to see what you set your HPF nad LPF settings at!

I'm not sure if you get what I'm saying. The "user defined" for Radio is different from the user preset when you switch to cd, or satelite radio, or other aux input. Anyways I never used the other presets either, but it took me a while to notice that each input mode has it's own seperate EQ definitions. So you have to set your user defined EQ up at least two times whenever you want to change it.

no i know what u mean, i should have been more clear sorry. i keep it at user preset eq setting the same in all the sources (i wrote them down and copied to each one), but its happened where i listen to cd, then get out of the car, come back to it later and its changed. its wierd.

Well at the time this happened, I had set the HPF to 80hz for both front and rear door speakers and I had the LPF set to 80hz. But after driving around in the car with no sub(Man I could just kill that son of a b****!), I realized that the door speakers do just fine playing straight thru(no filter) with the bass settings the way I normally have them which is +2 for any rock and pop and 0 for rap and hip hop. I always keep the NF at 0(don't need anything higher with a 4 ohm sub). But since my fiance likes to listen to mainly hip hop and likes to crank the s*** out of it(believe me she likes it loud) I decided to run both front and rear door speakers at 40hz on the LPF. This way I don't have to worry about bassing the s*** out of the door speakers with real low deep bass and they still put out the midbass frequencies just fine. Besides the minute amount of bass added by running them straight through is not enough to risk blowing a woofer on one of the door speakers. The Rockford sub is set to 80hz. Now keep in mind that these settings worked for me and may not sound good to you. So I suggest that you do what I did and get your car to someplace quiet, preferably at night, as you can visually concentrate better at the task at hand and with the windows up just crank it up to a good high number and start to mess with the settings. I turned mine up to about 28-30 and went from there. I used all kinds of music and came to a group of settings that would work pretty good for the types of music that we listened to. Then after I set it, I got my fiance to listen to her favorite songs at the time and tell me if it sounded good or if there was too much bass, not enough, or too much highs, etc. My fiance isn't very car audio savvy and just wants to turn it up and have it sound good and loud. I left the audio settings menu on bass so that if she would ever need to change anything, it would be the bass setting and all she has to do is press the audio button(and keep it pressed) and it would immediately pop up the bass +/- menu in which case she just raises or lowers it and then exits the audio function. Man this Kenwood is not the most user friendly radio out there. And whoever thought of using a radio that you must try to keep a button pushed for like a second to access something as crucial as the audio functions on a car that is not exactly Lexus smooth should've been castrated. You don't know how many times I've attempted to keep the audio button pressed only to hit a bump in the road and let go of the button and go into one of the lousy presets(rock, pop, jazz, etc) and then have to toggle my way back to the user preset. That's really irritating. Anyway those are my settings. Maybe 1sty(Audio Moderator) can chime in and shed some more light on some do's and don'ts as far as setting up this radio to have cleaner sound. I believe he installs audio equipment for a living so he's better qualified to give this kind of advice. I just used to do some backyard installing in mine and my friends cars like ten, fifteen years ago and I just got a little interested in it again with this little Rockford sub project.

Man I just realized that it seems like every post of mine is like a mini novel, it must suck for you guys to have too read through all that. I'll try to keep it short from now on. Me: (blah) You: (stfu) :D :D :D

thanks for the info

ok got my sub in. first the install...

very straight forward. take out old sub, test fit new sub, i put it in so that the label is right to left withe the left and right of trunk so this way i can see where the clips hit. then i saw the scrapings and i used the dremel to make way for the clips as h-town mentioned (thanks a million BTW), and its a plastic casing inside so use the grinding barells on ur dremel its real easy, took 5 mins. then i clipped the connectors off the stock wires cause i only had the spring terminals. screwed it in with stock screws (supplied wood screws wont work, we have machine screws). and VOILA. my gain is at 3.0 from factory, i dont know if thats too high but it sounds fine. the pics are below, the black foam on the back of the sub are the supplied gaskets which are necessasary, the other pic is the hole i cut so you can see, and the last is the stock kenwood with my finger through it. oh yea and i removed the 6x9 plates for better sound throughput.

as for a sound review. im surprised at these 8" subs. i listened to techno, hiphop (jedi mind tricks. woot, and moulon rouge (lady marmalade) and overall its a nice damn sub, i havent adjusted my system much but i got it on bass 0, NF 0-1, and NF Filter 80Hz. it sounds really good for an 8" sub. , it was 65 well spent.

oh wow yea thats an issue lol, but i guess since my outside came off there wasnt any tension to rip the inside. maybe they fixed the issue on the cone but forgot about the outside haha. its funny, the part around all my screws just ripped past them, part of it might be that they use them star things to keep screws in and if really tight it might have ripped the paper surround that came loose. thats my theory on mine lol

s*** dawg... peeps here in canada don't support the rockford fosgate 8"... have a buddy here with a JL W0 4ohm... he states the sub doesn't work (but really not tested). Do you think any of you guys can pickup the same sub and I'll send you a money order (with shipping costs of course) so I can fetch one? Cause man, really, people here in Canada say they can get the replacement sub in a week. IT'S BEEN ALMOST 3 MONTHS....

i wouldnt mind helping you out. send me the cost of the sub on ebay (where i got mine) of 81.45 USD shipped to me. and then ill get a shipping quote from UPS and you can pay me and ill send it on over.

was it savings lots??? That ***** wouldn't ship to Canada... Motherfucker! Sorry for the swearing, but living in Canada sucks. I can't take up Streetunits fine free shipping and the customs here blows. Oh, I can't do UPS... I had too many problems with UPS! Is USPS good enough for you? Ship it as gift or warrenty! Make it under $50 bucks! Saves me a lotta hassle n stuff!

ive never shipped to can, but usps is fine. So if u send me the 81.45, that covers the sub, so then i tell them its declared value is under 50? or a gift or whatever? no it was dbest4less. but PM me exact instructs, and ill help you out however i can. thanks
