Sportshift AT Driving Tips Thread

These two companies can make your tiptronic work exactly the way you want it. Only thing they can't do is make it into a 5 or 6 speed tiptronic. I am actually going to get my mine worked on by levelten but it may not be until next year.

I wish they made upgrades for Tiptronic. I dont know exactly what it would do, maybe help out our shifts, quicker, and smoother. Sometimes when I pull back to shift the tiptronic doesnt engage and I continue to redline. Too much of that led to blowing my motor a 20k miles.

The tranny was fine, but yes they did replace the engine. My service tech said that having an automatic saved me because if I had a manual tranny the warranty wouldnt cover it. But yes the warranty covered everything and I only ended up paying $130 for some servicing.

what is the fastest you guys have ever gotten your shiftronic auto up to??

On a level plane that is and what mods do you have to help???

Tops out at 113 MPH. Thats with axle-back Mazdaspeed Exhaust and cold air intake. If we had a different ECU in the car we could take it alot higher!

I enjoy taking turns hard, and occasionally I'll push the car to accelerate hard but really it doesnt feel like its moving anymore once I hit 3rd.

would u rather drive a fast car slow? I think driving a slow car fast is more fun.

Its a protection mechanism the car has. It is so some dumbass doesnt go into 1st instead of third and have the RPM go so high it blows up the engine. The proper way to drive stick is to never switch to 1st if you are moving (even 1 mph) Over 10 mph it is harder to put it in 1st, but possible, under 10 mph its easy, over 30 impossible.

I've recently jacked up my engine cause of this.. I downshifted into 1st and it wouldn't allow me to shift back into 2nd fast enough and the lag caused my engine to redline until it bogged down ( either over rev or cause of the rev limiter) not sure but gotta take my s*** to the dealer now cause its making weird lifter noises at idle

What in the world were you doing?? the tranny has a slight lag and that is when you try shifting it too fast. I can promise you, if you dropped to first at 30 and redline hits at 40, it wasn't the car or the tranny. The auto P5 is not fast enough to out drive the tranny shift. I am guessing you kept tapping it and it was still trying to set it self but couldn't because you simply kept tapping it. What bogging are you talking about? Only once have I forgotten to shift and it hit the rev limiter and it stayed there untill i shifted. it did all this with out a single problem.

Mind you, I didn't keep it at the redline but for a very very short time. How you managed to damage your engine is on you IMO. It isn't the car,and it isn't the tranny. For those of you who doubt me, go to your cars, start them up, put them in first shift to second etc. you WILL see a shift lag if YOU do it too fast. But if you tap it wait a tic then tap it again it will shift fine.

ive noticed when your in the sportshift mode and in 4th gear, and say u wanna pass a big truck fast. you can hit the bumpshift down twice really fast while steppin on the gas at the same time and it will bypass 3rd gear and go directly into 2nd gear.

takes a few tries to get it right, but it does it like its suppose to once u get the hang of it. same thing for when your in 3rd cruisin at say 20ish and want to hit 1st to accelerate really fast.

I usually drive in full auto, and in those 2 instances you mentioned, just stepping on the gas will drop down to the lowest gear possible to get going.

No they wont see the shift lag, it only accurs when you down shift into 1st then back into second and no I wasn't going ******* 30mph when I shifted into 1st, It was like 15-20 and It was on an incline thats why I downshifted. And I dont know what your p5's rev limiter kicks in at but I saw mine past 8,000.. and from what I've been told its only possible to go to 7.5k so I donno wtf is up with that.. I'm not bullshitting either. I'm not posting to brag or anything I'm posting cause im wondering why my ******* car is doing stupid s***. The ******* tranny should auto shift anyway before the rev limiter kicks in just like the volkswagens do it...

I have had two different cars with shiftronic transmissions and neither one shifts into the next higher gear if you hit the rev limiter. I have only seen them downshift automatcally but not upshift. I have definitely bounce of the rev limiters in both cars just like you can in the video games.

So when I hit that rev wall and shifted to 2 gear, I must be full of crap?

Why don't you all learn how to shift the damn thing? Or better yet, it's an auto, let i t shift itself since you all seem to be incompetent.
