So the other day my radio stopped working for almost the whole day, no buttons would work at all. but then it just turned on and the volume was at max killed my ears and gave me a heart attack. just want to know if anyone else has had this happen.

Try taking the radio out and checking the cords / harness in the back. Make sure that everything is well connected.

Another FREE idea for you...(birthday)

I have seen newer electronic radios do this if they have a sticky button from soda and drive-thru residue. You can systematically press every button and see if you have a button that is sticky/sticking. Can also be caused by the steering wheel audio buttons being stuck as well.

Here's the scenario: There is a stuck in button, the button press prevents the radio from booting up when the car is powered on, as the cabin temperature warms up ^ the button unsticks allowing the radio to turn on.

To put the factory radio into the "AUDIO PANEL SWITCH CONFIRMATION MODE" program.

1. Turn Radio ON
2. Press and hold both the POWER SW and MEDIA buttons for 1 second at the same time.
3. You should now be in the Confirmation mode program. Systematically press every button, there should be a buzzer sound with each button press.

Same problem, but with CD button

Hmmm...something like this has happened to me twice, only in reverse.

The outside air temperature reached 102F and the CD stopped working. The
radio worked OK, but nothing happened when you press the CD button. When
the car cooled off after running the A/C for a while, the CD started working
again. This was in El Paso, Tx.

The second time, I was in Phoenix. The OAT reached 109F and the CD stopped
working after the car set unattended for a while. It returned to normal after
we ran the A/C on high for a bit.

I will try the trouble shooting method Mazdadude mentioned when everything is
working correctly, then when the CD stops. It might narrow down the cause.

Thanks, Mazdadude!

This has happened to me 3 or 4 times over the past couple of years. I think it might be heat or humidity related. But the radio also shut down once when I ended a call using bluetooth, so I can't be sure. Of course, I can never reproduce the problem when I take it in for service.
