New INTAKE MANIFOLD protegegarage

You can get one for under a hundred bucks.....

but.....

You have a lot of welding to do, pull the flaps and weld again, grind down the welds in the runners (the ones that you had to weld to cover up the hole the rod attached to the flaps went through) and you have to make it look presentable.

If you can't do this stuff yourself, Ken's mani is a pretty good deal. It is a nice piece. It is a great mod for turbo'd applications. Plus, it looks really nice.

i understand everything you are saying, but since i have the tools and time to do it...ken's alternative is too expensive :)

there will be a dyno not to far off... KEN THEY ARE WAITING lol jp man! ... but not really

My EGR valve went out in my car and actually it decreases the gas mileage. Subscribing... very interested.

Did you try to re-use the stock one, cause that one wont fit?
no it was one that came with the intake manifold from pro garage

I bought a 626 egr pipe from mazda, I didnt use Kens. It was like $75 and it worked fine. The only reason I did that was because Ken was not able to order it for me, but he gave me the part number and everything.

subin. My motor is being put back together. I'll speak with ken, there's a bunch of parts I have to order yet..heh. maybe I'll get a discount for all the s*** I want.:)

unless you live in a place that requieres emmissions....why don't you get rid of the EGR altogether?

because then you are blessed with a check engine light

Install is a straight forward bolt on...
except i had an issue with one of my injector seals and a clip for the injector on the harness broke, kinda scared the s*** outta me when i started the car and i heard a BANG, gas sprayed everywhere. Later found a tiny tear in one of the O-ring seals, the pressure build up popped that sucker right out of the fuel rail, 5$cad to replace the seal form mazda (dealership ****-age).
Dont order the custom egr pipe cause im not sure what its custom for, mind you i saw an identical pipe hooked up to a gas BBQ in a lebanease restaurant...i got one for a 2002 626 and just modified it to fit(cut and re-solder) i got the gaskets from napa, 20$ for both(throttle body and intake) and i used some silicone for the intake side. Dont forget to leave the vtcs and vics plugged up unless you get an mp3 ecu.(vac lines obviously not hooked to anything), almost forgot make sure the theres no parts of the old gasket stuck to the throttle body, i didnt clean mine off and when i started the car (after i fixed the injector issue)my protege was screamin like in a horror flick.
I doubt there will be any dyno results anytime soon cause look how long people been sayin the dyno is comin lol anyways,
higher rpms, car pulls harder and the sound is awesome(mixed with headers and cat back) im not boosted by the way.

Oh and btw there is something I learned as of late. For all of you that are not particularly car-tastic and know all there is to know the EGR pipe is actually used to bring down the temperature of the cylinders... makes no sense to the common person exhaust added to intake = hotter, right? Wrong! The exhaust gas is actually an inert gas that will not combust so it thereby brings down the cylinder temperature :) glad I could spread some more light on that subject

In case anyone cares:

2001 626 Intake manifold
- part # FS1G13100
- retail $367.20 (new from dealer)

2001 626 EGR Tube
- part # FSJ220310A
- retail $71.80 (new from dealer)

If you have a tax ID for being a repair facility, etc., you should be able to get approx 20% off of those prices which would bring the cost to roughly the same as the PGarage one. Ken's mani is a great deal if it's a new manifold. The whole painting thing makes me think that they are probably used ones that have been cleaned up. Still not too bad of a price though. I'm sure if you are willing to clean and paint, you could find one at a junkyard for a lot cheaper, but I would not try to use an old EGR Tube. Just make sure you check the part # carefully, because junk-yards screw up a lot.

Im going to assume there are certain torque specs that you need to follow for installation? Anybody know what they are?
