My simple DIY dead pedal/foot rest

Bought all the supplies at my local Meijer. If you don't have a Meijer near you, you can move to Michigan. Easy peasy.

So we have, one heavy duty rubber step guard that I got from the truck accessories department, some heavy duty velcro strips, a little template of the step area, and (not shown) some duct tape.

I traced the template onto the backing of the self-adhesive rubber step guard. Be sure to flip your template over too before tracing it. I cut it with some heavy duty fiskars.

I removed the self-adhesive backing from the back of the rubber step, and then attached duct tape to it for heavy-dutyness.

Attach velcro strips to the bottom:

And lastly, stick it to the carpeting.

Great minds think alike! This is almost exactly what I did, except I cut out mine from a cheap rubber/vinyl floor mat (and didn't use the duct tape).

Yours has a nicer-looking 'tread' than mine though. Good job.

I imagine you wouldn't need the duct tape with the floor mat though. This rubber step had a weak self adhesive backing that I wanted to cover up.

Earlier this year I did make a trip to Home Depot looking for materials I could use (I was actually looking in the flooring section for something along those lines). Couldn't find anything though. I just happened upon the rubber step thing the other day and it works out nice.
