Did the air bag deploy?View attachment 333158 What have I done to my Mazda 5?
Sad day indeed. '07/90k and running fine, even still drives unaffected... but insurance is calling it a "total loss." Madness!![]()
That sucks, bro. Sorry to hear this.View attachment 333158 What have I done to my Mazda 5?

Nope, no airbags, and the bumper did it's job perfectly. Zip ties are cheaper!!Did the air bag deploy?
ETA: I'm guessing no air bag deployment because you say it drives fine and unaffected! Me, I would drill a few holes in that bumper cover and zip tie it together and keep driving it!
Thanks. I'm still talking with insurance...That sucks, bro. Sorry to hear this.
But then wouldn't it end up with a salvage title, causing a big insurance rate hike?Being an '07 with 90k miles, it really isn't worth anything, except the low cost of ownership. Take the buyout from insurance and tell them you want to keep the car. Get some used bumper parts off eBay, and drive it for another however many years you want to keep it.
Glad no one was hurt. I am shocked you have collision coverage!? It's a blessing in disguise b/c premiums would exceed the cost of the car in the long run...View attachment 333158 What have I done to my Mazda 5?

It will have a salvage title, yes. But again, the car isn't worth all that much, despite what sentimental value it has for you. Insurance will total loss a car when the repairs value over 75% the value of the vehicle. At best, in excellent condition, the car is worth $2500. 75% of that value means $1875. A used bumper cover and paint match is going to go over that cost, unless you go cheap on the paint. And then add in all the little parts / pieces to remount the fog light, replace the grill, straighten out the bumper support, fender liner, etc...But then wouldn't it end up with a salvage title, causing a big insurance rate hike?
I'd be more inclined to find a shop that'll write an estimate for just under the total loss level. Smaller payout in the short term, but it could save a lot of money in the long run.
Are you sure about this? Everything I've heard and read on this topic has suggested that insurance rates are higher with salvage/rebuilt title cars. Much smaller difference if liability-only, but not zero.Driving a car with salvage title isn't going to raise your rates.
Important correction. Thanks.I thought you can’t insure a car with a “salvage” title. You have to get it state inspected/certified (proper paper work on repairs and kinda expensive, inspectors are tough) to get back to “reconstructed” title, which you can then insure.
That makes sense.I just had my Mini Clubman totaled out, and I just renewed my insurance policy, too. I dropped collision coverage, and the new policy is half the cost it was before.
