My New Red CX-70 I-6 Turbo S Premium Plus

I picked up a new CX70 Soul Red Turbo S Premium Plus, with the beige interior this past Friday. We had two Genesis GV70 and have had too many issues and are working our way to get out from Genesis. One of our GV70, is less than two months old and suffered catastrophic engine failure at 850 miles and Genesis is planning to replace the engine in a brand new car, which I've told them is unacceptable and no one seems to care. Living in Florida, the car now qualifies for Lemon Law, so that's the next step to fully divorce from them. I did call them today to say they have two options. Either I lemon law it or they buy it back. Of course, no one called back. They just delay and hope you'll go away. But they don't seem to understand I'm one PO'd customer.

Anyway, here are two pics. I'll make this one post short and add more about the CX70 in another post.

Stunning! I'm still waiting for mine to arrive in July. Same tan nappa leather but in black.

Because of the lack of buttons in the newest Mercedes, I didn't even consider them. Personally, I don't like touch screens, so very much appreciate that Mazda doesn't permit touch when a car is moving and they only permit touch for Apple CarPlay, but even that doesn't work after going over 5mph. I like the rotary controller in the CX70 and find it so easy to use.
I generally prefer physical knobs and buttons. But locking out a touchscreen during motion is STUPID personified. If that is a "safety option" then put the damn buttons and knobs back in. I have gotten used to using the rotary controller in my MX-5 so not an issue moving to the BMW (now that these morons quit mounting it backwards). But my wife is coming from a non-screened 2012. And sitting in the passenger seat, if she could not use the touch screen she would blow her brains out.

I've grown quite fond of the controller in the CX70. But while driving, what I use most are:

Favorites - to change the station I may be listening to
Maps
Music - to see what I may be listening to

Having Alexa built in, is pretty cool to change things like climate control. But Apple CarPlay takes precedence over everything. I use Apple CarPlay, but not all the time.

Still, I greatly appreciated the lack of touch in the Mazda. The EU has told the German manufacturers to put controls back in cars. Relying on a touch screen to do just about everything, takes ones attention from driving and is just plain NOT SAFE.

If you don't mind me asking, what engine is in the Genesis GV70?
I have a 2023 Stinger with the 3.3TT V6.

Mine is the Premium Plus, which comes with a 3.3 Liter, Turbo Inline 6, with 340 HP and 369 lb ft of torque. There is also a PHEV version which is an I-4 with 329 HP.

Something else I've learned about my new CX70 is how aerodynamic the windshield is compared to my Genesis GV70. I live in sultry, buggy Florida. On any given day, driving home in the Genesis, I'd manage to get loads of bugs hitting my windshield and the OCD me, would have to clean the windshield after almost every drive.

In contrast, traveling the same routes in the CX70, I DON'T get bugs splattered all over the windshield at all. The difference is night and day. A small note, but a welcome one at that!

The CX70 also gets much better gas mileage than the Genesis did, which is great.

This is a good "perk" to have! I wonder if the windshield angle also helps to minimize chipping from rocks or other flying debris?

Nope. On my very first road trip I got a teeny, tiny chip from what had to be a teeny tiny rock at 70 mph. There wasn't even a car within 15 car lengths ahead of me as I was driving so carefully to avoid a chip. I heard it and when got to our destination I was able to find it on the passenger side, but it's not in my line of vision and even from my side of the car, I can't see it. It really is teeny.

That stinks! I've learned never to get too attached...even for a brand new car!

I have to say, the car was less than 24 hours old since I had picked her up when this happened, so I was gutted at the moment. But since I can't see the teeny tiny chip, I don't think about it now. Honestly, if I showed you my windshield, you likely wouldn't be able to find it. It's like a very very very tiny bug splat. I mean tiny.

I have a cousin in Calgary who bought a brand new Santa Fe in 2018. Just like @RBrylawski, he caught a rock on the highway the same day he picked it up. Only difference was that the rock put a huge crack in his windshield instead of a tiny chip. He drove it like that until he traded it in on his current Odyssey.

In Florida, we have full comprehensive insurance, which means if my windshield were cracked it would be replaced at no cost to me whatsoever. I would NOT drive around with a big crack in my windshield, which actually isn't safe to do anyway.

Comprehensive insurance coverage is an optional insurance coverage that can be added to liability and collision. It is not required in Florida. It pays for non-accident damage like hail and other weather damage.

I never said it was required, but I guess I assume most people would pay for such coverage. I certainly do.

Mine is exactly like yours, Red with the tan interior. It drives great, gets fabulous gas milage and always looks good!

I added an "etrailer-curt" trailer hitch. Fits excellent. I am eyeballing the exhaust thinking of extending the duals out the back. I think stainless steel black tips would go great with the black chrome on the car.

I'm not a modder, nor will I ever need to pull a trailer, but I'd be most interested in seeing the finished exhaust tips, if you manage to do that.

Otherwise, I truly LOVE my CX70 and am glad you're happy with yours too!

We are now a two Mazda, family. Parked next to my CX70 Turbo S Premium Plus is a brand new (picked her up yesterday) CX50 Zircon Sand Metallic Turbo S Premium Plus, with Terracotta Leather. Really impressed with the CX50 and for the other half, is the perfect sized SUV.

Congrats @RBrylawski! 👍👍 It would be great to see your CX-50 have its own thread here like this one...Would love to see more pics and updates on the ownership experience..😁

CX-50 General

Also, those pics above would be a nice addition to the Mazda Photos thread...
