Milwaukee Area Proteges....Unite!!

I wasn't to happy about my runs, in fact I was pissed. I couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong untill the last run I saw the bastard cone that I missed every run with the exception of the first.

Other than that I found out that I like more open courses. The first group of cars were interesting to watch. (some close calls)

Hopefully I do a lot better at the Appleton event.

Is anyone else going to the Appleton event?

Its at Fox Valley Technical College. This Sunday.

http://www.fvscc.com

It's going to be nice for me because I wont have to wake up at 5 in the morning and then drive 2 hours.

I am going to try to get my friends to go too, if not drive at least watch.

Hopefully you can go too.

The courses that the Milwaukee SCCA sets up are very open compared to most. The one that the Madison club set up was on the tight side but I've been to ones in LaCrosse and Wisconsin Rapids that were even tighter. -Erik

The Orange MSP was mine. I didn't do too bad for my first season out autocrossing.

Erik, you mean I could have been in C stock all year? argg...

Yup the orange one is the one I mentioned earlier from Madison. At the beginning of the year the MSP wasn't classed by Midwest Council yet. I should be running in the class below the one I was in all year. I knew it was gonna be that way but its more fun with competition in the higher class. I have to work harder. -Erik

Sorta. The car still isn't technically classed. If you would have ran in C somebody could have protested if they cared. For low speed I totally think its a B car. Since all of our stuff is based on high speed, next year it looks like its officially going to be classed in C. You should kill everybody in C next year. Hey anybody wanna buy my MSP? I gotta get rid of it. -Erik

Are you serious Erik? Why do you need to sell it? I've actually been thinking of selling mine too and getting a Mach 1 Mustang. Awesome prices on them right now.

I'm not sure Smithers. I probably won't decide until Saturday night. Looks like it'll be really nice Sunday though, so that's promising. 2 bad things though -- 1) I don't know where Fox Valley Tech is right off the top of my head (I'm sure I could find it though) and 2) The smaller town meets like Appleton usually have a pretty small, tight course......whereas I'd rather have a nice long one like the one we had in Milwaukee last time.

So I'm not sure. Hey, do you know of any website where I can get info -- like registration times, price, etc?

Oh, also, if you're still looking around for a helmet I should dig up the website where I bought mine. It was a pretty good deal for a full face helmet, which I wanted because I hope to buy a motorcycle some day. Under $150 shipped and it's pretty darn nice quality IMO.

Note: Registration for all events will begin at 9:30am with walk through, tech inspection and registration complete prior to the 10:45 am Driver's meeting. First car out at 11:00 AM. Late arrivals OK with a slip from your mother. The story has to be good enough for Wendy, or there will be a possible late charge.

It was on their site. That all that I know.
Its good to learn a tight course as well as an open one.

That would be great if you could send me a link to the site where you got your helmet. You helmet was the one with red graphics on it, right? If so it is a very nice looking helmet.

I dont know where your comming from but, go to www.mapfinder.com click driving directions and type in where you are and 1825 Bluemound Rd Appleton, WI 54914.
(Its where they do the BIG RIG driver training)

Well Smithers, how was it today? I didn't end up going, as I'm sure you found out. How many people were there?

Here's the link where I got my helmet from. I got the "candy orange" one for $112 shipped - but also ordered an additional face shield right away which put it at like $131 or something like that. All in all it was the best prices on full-face SNELL helmets I could find. I found a few cheaper open-face ones from other sites but literally every time I tried ordering from them the helmet I wanted was not in stock. So I ended up here. All in all I'm real happy with it.

So anybody who's looking for an auto-x helmet, heres 1 spot you can look:

It was a blast. The course was pretty open too. I think that I did well, I will post the results when they come out. There were very few people, I would say 30 at the most. (30 cars that ran)

It was one of the better experiences that I have had autocrossing.

Are you going to the Milwaukee event on the 26th? There is another event in Wisconsin Rapids also on the 26th at the tech college.
I think those are the last events of the year.

I am not sure if I am going to either of them yet.

Holy crap, you serious? I had no idea there was another event in Rapids coming up this year!!! I'm only 7 miles from Rapids so I would definitely be going to that one. The last one they had earlier in the summer was an EXTREMELY small course in the old K-Mart parking lot --- not very ideal and I suggested that they get the high school parking lot since it's real big. The tech school would work OK though I guess (still not as good as the high school though).

I wish I would have went to the Appleton meet now - simply because of so few people you wouldn't have had to waste the whole day there. Very nice. If you have an videos you want me to host let me know (or check my old directions in my previous post since I corrected them there).

EDIT - looks like you're right Smithers -- I just check this link:

I'll be at the Wisconsin Rapids event with the CWSCC. I was in the first event at the K-Mart parking lot too. Yeah it was very short. Only place they could get at the time and it was their first event so they didn't know if it would flop. The guy that runs the CWSCC is Tom Hille. He had the #45 white Type-R at Miller Park with the Madison club. -Erik

Here is the pic.

Erik, do you know if they have loaner helmets? If not can I use yours? Im getting a helmet for next years season.

In Appleton I ran in the STS class. What class would I be in for Rapids, STS?

Hey Smithers, they did have loaner helmets available at the last Rapids auto-x, so I'd assume they'll have them available this time too. You could use mine too if I'm there --- the last time at Rapids there was never more than 1 car on track so it would be easier to switch off helmets if needed unlike that last time at Milwaukee where we were both on the track at the same time.

Oh, and that link to the pic didn't work for me....guess I'll have to go searching on the site.......

I wasn't at the last Rapids event so I don't know if they had loaners.

I'll have to work on the pic. It worked yesterday? hmm?

The autocross in WI Rapids uses the same SCCA rules as the Fox Valley Club in Appleton uses. Actually a lot of the same people from the Fox Valley club will be at Wisconsin Rapids. So STS for you. The MSP is allowed in DS and STX. Girth, I'd run STX unless you have some R-compounds. Chris Fenter runs a WRX in DS and he's an insanely good driver. We should have loaner helmets available if I can get them in time. -Erik

Im not sure if I am going to Rapids anymore. Its such a long drive, and I have a lot of stuff to do this weekend.

At this point its not looking promising.
