Mad at my dealership (Mazda of Great neck)

Got my car towed to the dealership on 2/11 b/c my intake hose broke off (didn't know what happened when it did) and picked up my car two days later. I thought the service I had received was great, but now I know otherwise.

List of problems discovered in order:

1) Intake cover wasn't clamped on (turbo felt strange)
2) Paint chipped on the edge of my driver's door (probably caused by opening the door into the lift). My car is garaged, and I'm super careful when opening doors.
3) Missing engine cover
4) Turbo felt strange again. It's not engaging at all...seems like some kind of a vacuum leak.

The work was supposed to be done by their head tech...I really have loss faith in my dealership.

Options: Drive up to see them on Tuesday (exam on monday) or email their Service Manager with my complaint.


P.s. Is there a way to fix the paint chip? SHould I get them to fix it?
 
take it back immediately, Paint chip... your screwed they will deny that because you didn't notice before you left and probably didn't do a walk around when you left it! Always do a walk around when you leave your car! good luck yelling at them!
 
Maybe I should email their SM just to have some kind of documentation?

Ok, this has me more than a little worried. Lets look at the facts:

1. 3 men in front of a wall that says "BJ Center" with a giant rainbow
2. the man on the right is standing directly at the end of the rainbow hunching over with his his hand and mouth seeming to prepare for something not quite kosher
3. the comment above has the reference of "your screwed"

Jeez, if you are trying to come out of the closet just use the door knob, you don't need to smash the door down off the hinges on your way out.
 
I wrote a polite email to their SM, and I'll give them a call after my exam tomorrow (around 4 pm)...I just wish I could go there earlier, but I've also have a class in the morning from 8 to 12. I just hope their service department will take care of me and not screw me like Sovereign Volkswagen when I had the GTI.

I f you ever get a chance go to wantagh mazda i bought mine from there. service sucks time wise but they do really good work mechanical wise. By the way anyone else on the forum from LI? my gilrfriend bought her 2004 mazda 6 from Greatneck and there assholes.
 
Oh im not positive if it was a mazdaspeed dealer or not, its just when i did a search online for MSP shops on the Island all I got back was Wantagh and country. Also sorry to thread jack i would definetly be interested in meeting up with your Mazda club.
 
Another member! Awesome...too bad you didn't hear about it earlier..we just had two meets this weekend...one in PA, one on the island.

/back on topic

It's messed up what the dealer did....but see what they do to fix the problems...IMO if somebody messes up, but makes up for that mistake, no harm done. Who knows, maybe they'll fix everything right this time. But after you get everything straightened out, I wouldn't go back :)
 
Update.

Called them just a min ago and the SM said he'll take a look at it next week monday and decide what to do. There were no apologies for screwing up my car...not very polite.
 
The appointment doesn't go very well. Sm was missing. Service advisor and mechanic both were very rude...at least I got my engine cover back.

Here's a follow up as to what had happened two weeks after the appointment.

Just got a call from the SM of Great Neck Mazda. Here's a few of the points he made.

1) I did not give him any chance to remedy the problem.
Not true, I called and asked him to take a look at the car.

2) I did not call him at all or left a msg.
Again, untrue because I called the week before the appointment spoke to the service manager. He claims that I didn't. Very strange. Maybe Mike was someone at the dealership was pretending to be the SM.

3) They don't want to service customers that make a big deal out of something small.
Well, I guess if was my mistake to totally place my trust i ntheir ability in the first place. Even though they just forgot to put my intake and engine cover back on and scratched my door, I give them a chance to fix it, but was given the run around. Never was there an apology. And yes, I guess it could've been a lot worse, they could've have made a lot of small error that customer wouldn't care about
Those small errors are reflective of the type of care that was used and I guess they don't care about it. He told me that "at least the car is running."

4) I didn't need to write those letters to Mazda NA and the General manager.
What was I suppose to do...? After that appointment, I felt like there was nothing else to do. It felt like a dead end.

5) Everybody's got their problems and maybe the mechanic was having a bad day.
A mechanic with a bad day working carelessly on my car...well, that's a thought.

6) Mechanics isn't the best person for customer relations...
What the hell is this crap...my mechanic down in Glen Cove is the coolest mechanic I've ever known. Always friendly and anwser all the dumb question I've had about my car.

My main pet peeve with Great neck mazda is about trust and service. They don't trust me and therefore didn't give me the service that I deserve. No apologies were ever given. During the whole visit, I've felt like they were blaming me for the problems.

I guess all dealerships are like this, after all they are a business. However a business still need to treat their customers and their properties with respect. I know the problems I listed were "small", but I've often wondered if there was something else that I missed.

Is my expection of them too high? Should I have aimed much lower? In a couple of more years I'll be working as a doc...is this how I am going to treat my pt? It's a scary thought. I could just tell my pt that he or she shouldn't be mad because I made a small mistake and that they should be glad they are still alive. Could they still trust me to do more "work" on them? I highly doubt it.
