how is it for tall drivers?

i'm new here. hello. anyhow, i'm looking at buying a wagon of some sort, be it vibe or P5 (i'm attracted to the P5 largely because I can get a used 2002).

anyhow, how is this car for tall drivers? i like my knees to remain lower than my thighs...in many cars this is not the case (taller drivers will know what i mean). I assume headroom is okay, but what about knee room? I drove a corolla and felt way, way too cramped.

Thanks in advance

Well the left leg room is plenty, I can completely stretch my whole left leg out.

The right leg I guess is slightly bent, due to the pedals. Overall I have no problem driving the car long distance. Course I tend to like to rest my arm on my knees when driving, so I normally do not stretch all the way out.

I am also about 6 feet 2 inches.

6 feet 4 inches here. I can fit comfortably in the car, but of course with the seat back there's not much room behind me.

I think the interior is actually very roomy. I drove a corolla S as well, and while I didnt feel cramped, it was a little "close." I think the P5 is actually very roomy up front. And there is enough room if I scoot my seat up a bit to drive four comfortably. My buddy and I have had our "guests" both in the car with us and there was ample room. He's 6'2", my girl was 6', and his was about 5'10.

I also know that unlike the Pontiac my car is not going to die at 90K miles. :)

Do look around though. I thought the Vibe was similar. The back seemed a lot more cramped, though.

Compared to the competition, the Protege definitely has plenty of room. I am 6'4" and fit fine with room to spare. Not to mention, the pedals aren't awkward for drivers with big feet like Hondas.

6'3" and I fit fine. Have done a few long road trips (14 hrs at a time) and still feel good at the end of the day.

I know some tall people have avoided the sunroof because it limits head room, but I had to have it, and there's more headroom if you keep the shade open all the time (and I always do...cause WHY cover it?!)

cool, thanks for all the replies. i test drove a vibe and found it mostly roomy, though i could not stretch out my left leg and that was kind of annoying. i'll have to get behind the wheel of a p5 sometime soon

That is another thing I like. I can barely drive a 911 because of the lack of room. And honda pedals are big and clunky. The small pedals are ideal for tall folks. Heel/toe is also relatively easy in the car.

I'm 6'3" and I chose the P5 after going to one of those september auto shows where all the manufacturers show off their new cars.

I sat in just about every compact car and none of them had the leg room and comfort of the P5. The Focus had a higher, squishier seat, but lacked the support because of it. The hyundais were just too small (not that I'd ever buy one). The seat in the Jetta didn't go back far enough. And my g/f has a 2000 Corolla which kills me. My legs are on either side of the steering wheel with the seat all the way back...and there is no side support.

The best thing about the P5 is the front and rear cushen height adjustments. I can get support on the front of my legs no matter how close to the steering wheel I sit. The seats also have great lateral support for a compact car. I drive 40 miles a day to work and at 5:30 every day I can't wait to sit in my nice leather upolstry.

I actually didn't want leather...but there wasn't a single Blue P5 with ABS and a Moonroof in New England that didn't have it...so I said what the hell. and I'm sure I'll be saying "its hot as hell" this summer when my leg hair starts burning from the heat.

I dated someone who was 6'7" and could barely fit in anything!!
He drove a P5 and still had room. It was funny that we had to go car shopping in terms of if he fit or not

6'4" here and I am nice and comfortable in a P5 also. Well, as long as the car doesn't have a moonroof... The first P5 I drove at the dealership had a moonroof, and my head would hit it over any sort of bump in the road. Other than that, I think you'll be happy with the room in the P5. :) Good luck!

You guys are very tall and i am only a 5'10"
I am short man.
I felt so comfortable in my mp5 since I am not as tall as u guys

I am 6'5" and I fit in it just fine, enough leg room and plenty of head room. I love this car!

head room

A former co-worker of mine is 6' 10", 285#, and he drove a VW Golf GTI with a sunroof. He admitted he would have had more headroom had he not opted for the roof, but like me, he liked the openness and was willing to slouch. Speaking for myself, I feel claustrophobic in most vehicles without a sunroof.
I'm sure he would fit in the P5 as well, but did tell me at the time most Japanese cars did not have enough head room, especially Hondas.
The Vibe & Matrix have enough headroom to accommodate Marg Simpson's doo, if you like their quirky "SUV wannabe" looks.

Cheers, Mark :)

Maybe I just have long legs or something, but my right leg doesn't have much room and i cannot make my left leg full straight. And this is with the seat pushed all the way back!

maybe I need to change the seat settings some more or move the steering wheel up a little...

oh forgot to add, i'm only 6'0! how are all you 6'2 - 6'4 guys fitting without any problems?!

Quick question: I wanted to know if the p5 seat rails slide back further that the sedans. I have a MSP and I'm 6'6" and could use a little more leg room if possible. Thanks Evan

I don't see why they'd be any different. I'm pretty sure they use the same seats in both the cars. If I was 6'6" i would have definately looked into getting something bigger. Probably an SUV of some sort.
