FREE MPI help!

right and if u have to install it on the pc, the adaptor itself is assigned a com also in control panel (when its plugged in), mine defaulted to 7 which mpi doenst read. u have to change it to 1-4

i found the problem..................

I'm a dumb ass! the cd was hidden inside the package so i didn't see it at all but i got it to connect though the mpi program seem to take a good while to start reading the mpi is there a way to make sure it start asap? or does it do that random stuff

Mine starts pretty quickly. It could be the computer trying to auto set the parity for the serial port hence the lag.

Good to see it working.

So, I've read the thread (and maybe missed the answer to this question) but...

I have a (pretty much) stock 2.0l. The only thing that I've done is added an SRI.

Would getting an MPI (or any other management unit for that matter) do anything for me? I know (thanks to Ken) I need one if I want different injectors, but if I don't go the boosted route is there a benefit?

Thanks all,
Joe

Joe, you will not need different injectors, but rather an NA turbo module from Nick. The MPI will be able to manipulate the stockies well enough in my opinion. As far as the gains go, I am not sure if you'll net 10 whp or not, but for us proteges, the big gains come from turbo with ems.

thanks Moeed. I'd seen a few of the unichips up for sale, and that started me thinking about ems in general.

what is a 'na turbo module'? i get the 'normally aspirated' but don't i need a turbo to use a turbo module?

The NA module is designed for an NA setup. The turbo turbo module is made to clamp other sensors that are needed to dump in more fuel.

Yes, you will need a turbo turbo module for a boosted application.

alright i need help.

i tried connecting an mpi tunner to my freinds car. I connected all the wires, and put the software from a cd that came with the mpi tunner on m laptop. But i cant get to the program because it said i need a security key. Can anyone let me know how to get that. thank you.

Thanks Luda aka Lewis, I got a code from that and checked it in the morning. Codes are p0102 and p0103 maf to low and too high. Anyone have any suggestions? Oh and also now my A/F gauge isn't working now, don't know why because it's connected straight to the sensor itself.

you need to copy the file to the mpi_tuner dir in program files. theres no way around it. do you get an error or something? maybe the media your copying from is bad?

Can you describe to me what all is wired to pin 88 aka the maf wire? How does it idle? Do you have a fuel cal set up yet? I take it not yet cause of the software. Your o2 guage may have lost a ground. Double check that.

Copy that key to the MPI_TUNER directory and it will prompt you if you want to use it when you start the SW?

well now the car is not runing, i dont really car about the sofware for right now. in the instructions to connect the mpi tunner sometimes it says intall, or find and cut. So am i suppost to cut the wire and connect it to the mpi tunner or connect the mpi tunner wire along to the wire goin to the pcm.I know i cant leave the pcm with out cartain signals. Is there someone i can call that will help me out?

Yes, you are wiring in an ems into the car. Are you talking about the fuel pump wire? Just make sure the color is exactly what the instructions call for. use a multimeter if you are in doubt to check the voltages. You need to power the mpi and tmodule to let stuff run.

The ecu will get all the signals. The mpi will either T into a wire or a wire will be cut and one side be it engine or pcm will get some wires, the other side will get some other ones. It all goes through the mpi so it completes the circuit.

Take your time, double and triple check the instructions. Did you need to wire resistors up?

no i first thought about just t into all the pcm wire but then i cut the pcm wires and connected the mpi wires to the wire goin to the engine. then i taped the wires goin to the pcm, but after that the car wont run. Soo im thinking maybe i should go back to T.

So every wire in the PCM needs to be connected to something right? I think I have more than a few that have nothing right now. We need to get back to it and get the car running again. Anyone have a different set of instructions I could try?

Luda: you need to follow the instructions exactly. That is how you correctly wire in the mpi. What I mean by T is cut the wire and solder the two ends and the mpi wire together. The engine/pcm wire will be cut into two and one end gets a wire from the mpi or turbo module, the other gets a different wire from the mpi or turbo module. The engine/pcm steps do not reconnect the two wires back together.

Orng1: not every wire gets an mpi wire, and not every mpi wire gets used.
try these instructions:
