Engine mounts

Reading this forum I found that there are two engine mounts mentioned: CP-E's and AWR's. I know they look different. What does it change to put aftermarket engine mount? Which one should I choose or maybe both? Is it hard to do it by myself? I've read some threads but I still don't know if it's worth to get them.
Thanks

they just stiffen the motor up, so the driver feels the engines power much quicker. helps put power to the wheels as well. there is AWR and SU and i guess cp-e's? i didn't know they had one..its probably pricey

Are there any provable gains (WHP/WTQ) to having a motor mount of any kind? For those of us who like a smooth ride, will this make the shifts rougher or the cabin rattle around more?

no real power gains, but i will tell you that it smooths out the ride a ton. the whole car feels solid now, and when i raced a new RSX type S yesterday (my first launch after the mount install btw) the tires lit up pretty good and then i just rocketed forward!
awesome!
i would recommend this to anybody who enjoys any amount of spirited driving..at all.

smoother ride(burnout) it lowers the elastic feel of the car a ton. no rattles, unless you have something in the side of your door of course, those type of rattles could be worse. But that just means you have to much s*** in your car, and you need to clean it!

shifts i say are much cleaner, but of course i have the twm shifter so they were already damn smooth.

So which engine mount would you recommend? CP-E or AWR? They look different so I assume they are located in different areas.
Thanks

the CP-E looks alot more like the stock one, both serve the same purpose. the AWR is half the price, with twice the options :)
AWR ftw, CP-E ftl

From the descriptions of both motor mounts, and my own visual inspection of each one, I would say that the CP-E one was designed better. The metal looks like it is one piece, as opposed to the AWR which is 3 pieces welded together. When you're talking about a component that is trying to reign in all that horsepower to keep it in check, I'd want something that has the least possible points of failure. I've already had a weld point go in my car and have to be replaced (my seat, but still... and no I'm not a phat bastard, I just must have put too much pressure on the weld by leaning back against the seat when adjusting coat/pants/etc).

I have been impressed with the CAI and TBE I got from them, so I feel a little more comfortable buying something I know is from a company that will take the time to research a product carefully, and respond to customer feedback (props to Jordan and the rest of the crew who I spoke to when I had concerns about the smoking post TBE-install... which was never CP-E's fault, it was the turbo).

I'd like to get this mod done also but isn't there different "grades" or "stiffness" that you can choose? If so, which # would you guys/gals recommend?
I did look up the mounts but I don't know which # to go with. Are there trade-offs going with one over the other?
Sorry for the questions but I think I read somewhere that if you get the mounts with, say, an 82 value, you would feel excess vibration in the steering wheel?

88duro may show excess vibration only during idle with the A/C compressor running..and "excess" is more of an opinion...really. i prefer stiffer..the vibration makes it feel like a race car anyway haha

the softer one..well i don't know but its softer ;)

HI, I agree with you, the CPE looks a heck of a lot more solid. And it works great.

I know a few other activities that will break seats... *cough*

Hehehe.... Heh... hehe...

Oh, and FYI for those who are wondering: Josh from CPE emailed me and said that the CPE Engine Mount has a 70 durometer rating.

I have the CP-E engine mount. Definetly the best per dollar modification.

It does NOT add horsepower or torque. But, it eliminates the CLUNK whenever you shift from first to second fast at redline. It also smoothes out the shifts, and I have not missed a shift since. It makes aggressive driving much more fun.

Although it is only a 70 durometer, it does a great job. On a more "subjective" level, I did feel more vibrations through the steering wheel and seat at idle, WITH or WITHOUT the A/C on. However, at any RPM level above idle, it smoothes right out. It does not affect the ride quality at all, no matter what durometer you get.

As for a 88 durometer, it will vibrate a bunch more. If you are sensitive to vibrations, go with stock or a 70 durometer one. I like CP-E. It is identical to the stock mount, other than the color of the rubber.

If you want an aggressive driving feel, or are tired of waiting for transmission bolts to start shearing off, get an engine mount. It doesnt really matter on manufacturer.
