Dealership Oil Change

I have to keep mine for 5. If I don't, the wife threatened to buy an E46 M3 to replace our aging 325i. Where's the harm in that you say? I won't, neigh I CAN'T have the slowest car in the garage. That's HER job. Besides, I have a 1964 beetle. I'll already in the rears on that bet if the MS3 goes.

NOW explain to me this KOSH, how would i blow an engine from not using synthetic????????

Please i'd like to know. Do some reading. Consumer reports even had a nice article about testing 100 NY taxi's. 50 with regular oil and 50 with synthetic, after service of 3 years was completed the engine were torn down. neither engine had more or less wear than the next between the 2 types of oil.

Can't believe everything you hear. I drove my VW for years and put regular oil and synthetic, i mixed it up depending on what my income was like (mostly synthetic). after 7 years the ******* timing chain broke and destroyed the engine. Vw still replaced it under warranty and that was that.

theres another thread on here on why i think synthetic is OVER RATED. By no means am i saying its not good oil, all i'm saying is for most car owners its a waste of money PERIOD. AVERAGE car owner keeps a car for 3 years, so after 3 years of using synthetic you spent 2-3 times the money i did in oil changes and got what????????? peace of mind that the engine didn't blow up........ bulls***.
Engines don't blow up from NOT running synthetic, they blow up from abuse, bad tuning, mechanical failures etc............ Lack of oil might blow an engine, lack of NOT using synthetic, won't do anything but blow my walet up from the money i'm saving.

I still liek the idea of using synthetic and will cont to do so but not for any reasons that I can start linking you to that says its better.

Its like Arco gas, it works but it wont touch my car even though I will be out of it in 3 years like most people. For me knowing that there is something better on the market means I want to use it regardless if some can argue its not any better.

If I treated my car like s*** just because it will be gone some day I wouldnt have nay pleasure in owning it. I treat it as if its mine to keep and I take very good care of it and since sythetic is one of the easy things to do and its said to be better I will use it.

No way is your engine going to blow up or anything like that but you cant deny that synthetic is a better oil for many reasons. I have read that you run your car hard and for those reasons why wouldnt you want a oil that is said to keep up with the abuse?

My recomendation is do the oil changes more frequently and you'll have better protection. Synthetic in a turbo motor gives people a false sense of security IMO. Yes it will hold up to heat better than standard oil, but eventually it breaks down just like normal oil. the difference is now that you have synthetic in your motor you believe you can run longer with it and thats false, its not doing its job properly anymore. Now if you run synthetic and do an oil change every 3k, well i guess thats the max protection you can get, BUT does it pay off. 70.00 every 3 k makes for alot of money spent on a car just for oil changes, assuming most don't do their own oil changes.

Now gasoline is a different story. I run race track or whatever in all my Cars but the SVO. The SVO gets texaco, shell, or cheveron everytime. WHY, well because i have that car setup/tuned on the ragged edge and i need decent gas for it to not detonate and burn a piston. all my other cars have knock sensors and can survive on crapy gas, if they ever get it.
For my daily driver cars, i'll run anything i can get UNLESS i notice that the performance of the car is lacking with a certain type of gas.

I'm curious if you think i'm treating my car like s*** because i opt to not get into the hype of synthetic oil..........
Look either way, i'm not trying to persuade people either way, personally i don't care, what i do want though is to inform people that just because TV says its the best, doesn't mean its neccessary or that it will protect your motor any better given your driving and oil change habits..
