Dealership Oil Change

Is there a special tool you need to change it yourself? Dealer was saying I couldn't change it myself which I find hard to believe.
The only special tool you need is a fliter wrench cup which is easily avaiable. You should use the right one though. There is a thread on this in the how-to section.

Paid $30 for Mobil 1 at walmart and $12 for the labor at the dealer, score!

Did you know its just some DOnkey that changes the oil at the dealer? They arent even mechanics and my guy clearly was Autistic but he did a good job.

Not hard job but not having to get under there and dispose of the oil is a no brainer for me when it only costs $12.

Where you going with that donkey thing? Yeah, I know. I used to be that donkey.
I see it as a rapport thing with my dealer. Few bucks here and there and they hook me up if I ever need it.

Dude they are taking too much money from you so I would buy your own oil and take it to them. They profit on each quart as well as the labor but if you bring your own then you save huge.

If you keep paying that you are still that donkey and not "used to be", lol.

I get paid money to surf the web, goof off with coworkers, and photoshop pictures. It all evens out somewhere. (yippy)

I went with the service plan when I got my ms3, sort of wish I had opted out and would do my own changes but oh well. I can just go in get my oil changed and walk out without even having to bring any money. Pretty nice just to not have to worry about it at all.

Me too! I do about 20 minutes of work a week and the rest of the time i'm youtubing, on this forum, watching anime on my zune or sleeping!

Ya the sig is my 'dream car' right now i have to settle for this bad ms3 :(

I was gonna post this in another thread but it'll do here. I've been changing my own oil in my cars and motorcycles for the last ten years, ever since I've been driving. I've never screwed it up. I took my Speed3 GT to the dealer where I bought it for its first change just to see what having it done by someone else was all about. An hour and 1/2 a Newsweek later plus $32.00 it was all done. A week later I checked the oil. It was 2-1/2 quarts low! I'm lucky I checked when I did, any longer and I would have burnt up my turbo or my engine. After dumping in a s*** ton of oil I took it to the dealer the next day and let 'em have it. The grease monkey didn't put the filter on right. These guys are supposed to be professionals? That was and will be my only experience with having someone else change my oil.

I pay 19.96 + tax at my dealer for a standard oil chane. I won't waste a penny on synthetic on my MS3. IT IS A WASTE.

I won't get into my reasoning for not buying Synthetic but i do my oil changes at 2500 mile intervals and i do drive the car hard.

Have fun spending a silly 70.00 for a oil change. Thats just dumb.

Any worry about the viscosity at high temps found in the turbo? Not bashing your decision just thought that was the reason it is recommended for our cars to run on synthetic.

Either way by the time you get rid of the car you wont know a difference of what kind of oil you ran. I still like to use Mobil 1 for peace of mind but I cant say there will be a difference in the end when changed on time.

I know it does protect at higher temps then regular oil and that is something to consider whith a turbo. I have read from justa4banger that the temps a turbo puts out will kill any oil quicker then normal but every bit helps and I am happy with using synthetic in all my cars.

I guess if he keeps changing at 2500 miles it shouldn't be an issue. If it was my car I would be a little worried. I hope I don't see a thread in 4 months 'I blew my engine' :(

OIL Coaks gentlemen, i don't care if its synthetic or normal oil, IT COAKS. Have you ever seen how hot the turbo really gets....... Maybe ...... JUST MAYBE....... synthetic might hold on for a bit longer........... It still fails and once it does the turbo starts to starve for good oil and has to deal with the crystalized s*** that oil turns into once burnt.

Once the oil is burnt its done, so you need to change it more often. Read some outside testing not performed by oil manufacturers. Engine stil wear the same regardless of the oil used. You don't have to agree about what i know and have experienced.
I do run mobil one synthetic in my SVO.... why, well first because i can and second cause i only change the oil in that car twice a year ........MAYBE. i don't drive it enough to need an oil change often. Turbo cars are hard on oil, but i honestly believe and will continue with changing oil more frequently and saving my money on the sythetic stuff.

Last point to note..... 90% of the mS3 owners on this board won't keep there car more than 3 years, so once again, its a waste.
