Is that for just regular oil and filter or synthetic? That is pricey! I'm due for mine soon and was thinking on going to synthetic.

Paying a dealership to change your oil is a big waste of money. That being said, I spend $40 dollars on just the synthetic oil I use each time I change my oil (every 3k miles).. plus $5 for an oem filter... but um it's much, much better than the dino stuff they put in at the dealership I'm sure :)

Just do it yourself, it's quick easy work especially if you have ramps.

if i buy the oil (mobile one synthetic) and the filter it costs me about $30, and they do the change for me for $5.

Huh?

Are you saying that you buy the oil and filter and take it to a shop and they will do the work for $5?If so thats worth it.

yep. i bought my car with a $15 oil change for life, but since i bring my own stuff they only charge me the $5 labor. plus i dont have to worry about any mess or disposal. well worth it.

If you do decide to go to the dealership and dont bring your materials do not let them charge you more then 30$ total, parts are 22.66 after tax at the dealer ship I work for, and 8$ is more then fair for labor on an oil change.

Where do you buy your syntec and what brand, mine was 48.62 total for redline 5w-30 6 quarts.

Oil change

I just got my first Oil change today and changed over to Mobil 1 synthetic and with a discount coupon which saved me about $4.00 dollars I was charged $70.71. That got me the express service which of course went over all the fluids and a checked all the points, tire rotation, and a car wash which I was weary about because I didn't want my car scratched. Pricey but need to develop a relationship with a local dealer even though I didn't buy the car from them. I may change my own in the future but I currently didn't feel well and I know this oil change is more than usual having to remove panels etc...(usa)

Remember that the MS3/MS6 takes 5.7L of oil. Most place charge a basic rate for up to 5L. This may be why it is more expensive.

Also remember that syntec isn't actually synthetic. of the "major" brands of oil, only Mobil1 is actually still known to be a synthetic (there are rumors that it no longer is, but no concrete evidence yet)

Mobil1,redline and that purple stuff what ever its called is still 100% synthetic. All others are not TRUE syntectics and that includes castro and valvoline.

^^ Royal Purple.

also Amsoil makes a true PAO synthetic still.

syntec and valvoshit is just a waste of money, either buy a real synthetic or just don't bother.

thats a reg oil change no synthetic.

i have alwasy done my own oil changes on my old blazer... i just dont have nearly enough time these days to do my own nor do i wanna lay on the cold ground lol i will do my own next time.. it might be summer by then who knows considering the weather these days

I just had to get my first MS3 oil change on Tuesday for $26.11. That's not too bad for a dealer. They have a PS2 with GT4 set up too so you can play while you wait.

i feel like the crappy coffee, stupid magazines and broke remote for the tv were entertainment enough for me for an hr... who needs gt4 to keep them entertained.. pssshh .. lol i got hosed

Ya I forgot Amsoil..
I just use Mobil1 because its at my stores and its a bit cheaper then the other synthetic.

Is there a special tool you need to change it yourself? Dealer was saying I couldn't change it myself which I find hard to believe.
