I have a Protege 5 2003

My cruise control stopped working (I played with the fuses but they are all fine.. maybe not properly inserted.. but which one? cuz there is no indication)

I read around the forums and people are saying there is an on/off switch? Where? :S

Thanks

yea where i want to know to?

mine stopped working as well. I have pused that button many times and no cruise control for me so if you get it figured out let me know because I gave up a few months ago. I only used it about once a year as it is so its not that big of a deal to me but if I can get it fixed it would be nice. Just not something worth me paying a mechanic to look at.

Yep, mine was in fact the button.. must have pressed it by mistake somehow.. and did not even know the damn thing was there.. -.-

If it's not the button, check your actual cruise control under the hood and make sure that vacuum line on top isn't leaking or cracked.

I had some problems with a vacuum leak and my cruise wouldn't work. I fixed the vacuum leak and my cruise control came back to life.

This may sound weird, but check to make sure you don't have a tail light out. I don't know about our cars, but in some vehicles, an improperly functioning tail light will disable cruise control. Essentially, the car sees it as a "break" in the system and disables the cruise control as a safety precaution.

i have the same problem. My main does not turn it on or off. Any other options to this fix?
Pushing the main button on does not light up the cruise light on the dash. The cruise light on the dash does not come on until you try to set it with the set button.

+2 on that, IIRC there was a thread back awhile where a bulb or fuse out was making some seemingly unrelated stuff go on like this.

Make sure you're going over 35MPH, don't have the clutch pressed in, or have the brake pedal depressed.

There have also been problems reported with cruise modules going bad. I rarely use mine except to check if it is still operational. Sometimes I have to turn off the main switch then turn it back on and try to set it again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times of that before it will actually take over and work like it should.

I use mine constantly as I am a road-trippin' fool, and in the last month it has developed that problem too. If I go from highway cruising to a stop, I usually have to turn the cruise off & on before it will cruise again. At this point it's a mere annoyance but I worry it's just the first sign and could lead to more problems. You're saying this is most likely the cruise module itself, and the only fix would be a replacement? Yeesh....
