alright buying some JLs not looking for w7s but something moderate with a nice sound. Building a custom fiberglass box for three of them. Also best price? place to get them? any connection in the forum?

As far as amp im fed up with buying them and im going to go with the cheap amp that still works out of the 4 that i have.

If you're intent on going JL the W3v2 is a great sub for the money. The w6v2 is also really really nice. Just know, that there are other brands out there that are extremely competitive with JL for a bunch less moo-la.

As for hook-ups...I don't really know of any people in particular. I've heard ok things about woofersetc.com, and they say that they'll give you a warranty on products.

As for amps...use what you think is best. If you don't feel like spending an ass ton, then use what you've got. But if you want to stick with JL look into their e-series stuff.

you pay a little less than a dollar per watt for an amp.. don't over power your sub/subs

I'd rather overpower than underpower...trying to get high volume out of a weak amp is asking for trouble

This *is* the way, the truth, and the light...overpowering=good. Underpowering and trying to get too much out of the speaker = distortion/clipping = dead speaker.

there is absolutley nothing wrong with underpowering, its the moron who turns the gain up thinking he'll get more volume that is the problem..

I was looking at the W3s and also Kicker Comp VR series, but then ended up with Elemental Design E12K.44s. I am very pleased with them. The only thing about ED is I hear of people waiting forever for them to arrive. I only had to wait a week and a half, but they are getting in to the mainstream and cannot keep up with demand.

yea i know theres alot out there such as ED but im building a show car and brand name it what wants to be seen. the one w7 idea has crossed my mind but the fact of the matter is i think the box will turn out much better with three speakers. The protege5 trunk is a hard one to make look clean.

my feeling on amps is save the moeny and buy something really goood yea know? i mean i had a
cheap kenwood-overheated-my fault didnt know enough then
cheap prymid "1600" 4/3/2 channel still works.
audiobahn 2200HC- caught fire
cali profile 1200sx- wired perfectly to spec and it blew

so the one that works is what ill use, i wont display it but for now itll power them. Then when i have the money ill prob buy 3 500/1 JLs.

Im all ears to another company.

There is a guy who did a tutorial on a fiberglass box for his Infinity subs here. I have never messed with the stuff personally, but he did an awesome job.

The amp is part of what makes the system and in my opinon, is more important then the sub.

The W3 or W6 is a great sub. There are a ton of others that are great too.

I would suggest the new Boston products if you want brand name and good perfomance. Truth be told, I have not yet had a chance to use them, however the flash is there and not everyone has them. In fact damn near no one does. eD would be cool to see at more shows too. When I go to shows I tend to see atleast 10 cars with JL subs and a total DOG s*** inspired install that is powered by a garbage amp and sounds terrible. That might intrique the rice boys, but those who really compete, laugh at it.

I believe woofers.com has some JL gear. However, be well aware that it may be Bstock from a dealer order that was transhipped to woofers. Its not a gaurentee but its common.

POwer is simply to achieve an SPL without distortion. To that extant, nothing is to much or to little. The goal is to aviod distotion. That is what kills subs. Becuase most people wan tthe most SPL for the drivers being used, overpowering is common to achieve that SPL without distortion. Thermal limits are RARELY reached without distortion in the signal.

Take what has happened as a lesson, get a good amp and stop cheeping out on one of the most important parts of the system. Or stay out of competitions untill you get a good amp. If its an appearence show thats one thing. A sound show is not the place for that amps :D

that excatly what i mean i cant stand spl anymore s*** im half def now hah

Im totally in a agreence with you on the amp being the most important part thats what im not playing around anymore ill dick around with the piece amp untill i can buy some high quality s*** with like no THD ill take the time to do my research.

what ED do you recommend? i dont have alot of experince with them. While im asking for advice what amp to power them.

I hope to build this box to spec and enter some sq show but also have it look insane

If you can't stand SPL.. then go for a sub that's made for sound quality.. i would suggest 1 image dynamics idmax sub and a zapco amp to power it, in a sealed box.

With eD, if you really want to run 3 drivers, and don't want to be pushing stupidhuge spl, then just go with their k's or KX's even. THe problem, though is that I believe they're having supplier issues with their flat cones. For awhile they made a run of aluminum coned drivers to keep things rolling but I think they'r egone at the moment. Somehting I think that'd sound awesome would be a pair of 10" o's supposedly they have O's in stock. O's take bigger sealed boxes which'll take up more space for making things pretty with, and wind up sounding good as well. If you wanted to stay true to eD you could go with an avionixx amp. I've got no idea where they rank comparatively, but I've been more than pleased with mine. Everything in my car's sounded cleaner than anyhting else I've heared in my limited experience.

even if its a show car any judge that is halfway decent won't pay any attention to what name is stamped on the sub, they will look at how well it is installed not who's name is on it. if they did they should be thrown out. same goes for any good sound quality judge, if he is basing your system by the name stamped on the eqipment he is worthless as a judge.

on to the amp versus sub. to me the more important factor is the sub itself. most amps will be fine as long as u run them properly and work the gains right, your likely to get more distotion out of a high quality amp hooked up to a budged speakers versus a budget amp and high quality speaker.

and the most distructive thing to a speaker is sending it a clipped signal. not nessicarily the distortion, the distortion is a byproduct of the clipped signal. but if u do hear the distortion adjust your system properly. even cheap equipment can be made to sound decent, installation is everything.
