Another turbo P5 thread...

worst thing possible happened, twice

friend was putting in oil pressure t thing. it broke in the block. got a screw extractor. that broke in the bolt in the block. **** you craftsman, now come fix my engine.

ideas? probably going to pull the motor i guess.

now to drink away my sorrows...

oh dear! zomg that really sucks uggh.

you definitely shouldn't need to pull the engine.. there's gotta be a way. you have the intake manifold off, right? there's plenty of room to access that.. hmmmm

crap anyone have any ideas? (hear ya)
 
So did alcohol solve all your problems?

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that it only made them worse haha

Hopefully the new morning cleared your head and it seems more doable now. I know during my install, I got frustrated a lot with things that seemed impossible to do alone, and sometimets I just had to call it a night even if it was only like 1am because I knew I was too frustrated to make decent progress.
 
Welcome to my club. I broke off a tap inside the block when i was trying to get the new oil pressure sender tapped. I ran out of time trying to fix it though and had to weld the whole thing shut in there. unless you're like me and had NO OTHER OPTION, dont do that though.

As for the tap....taps are a b**** and i could not get it out with anything, we tried the strongest drills out there, and every screw extracting method also, including heating it up and jb welding something to the tap and then turning it. nothing worked....my only other option was to pull the motor out and take it to a machine shop . I HIGHLY suggest to take that approach if nothing else works becuase they should be able to get it out. the only hard part is pulling that motor out. I think Sam hates me a little for welding my pil sender shut on the block but i had a horrible situation so keep working on it. And if you got as stressed out as I did, take some time off it cause i had to have like 5 people calm me down during the days of and after i broke the tap off. DIE TAPS DIE!

It was a nice temporary way of getting my mind off the whole situation :)

dj that pretty much sums up my thoughts. I really don't want to weld it shut but we'll see. Pulling the motor out... well at least I have access to a engine hoist. My concern on that option is removing/tapping the block. Little metal shards getting in there :( I'm tempted to make the best out of this situation and get some forged internals while I'm at it. Good thing I'm broke :(

Lastly, a stupid general question. Is there any reason why I couldn't use the oil filter sandwich plate thing as a source for my turbo oil feed line? I'm trying to figure out how I can avoid this. I'll definitely plan on remote mounting the Tee, even though I hate BSPT fittings because they are impossible to find.

I just ran my old oil back the the block and it took care of most the metal shards in the block . just be careful i would say, dont forget the hole where you were tapping is just a long tube where oil runs through, so oil should get most of that metal out of there, i literraly ran the old oil, replaced the filter, ran new oil, and motor ran. I dont know about the oil filter sandwhich thing though, i think ken was telling me something about that after i told him of my dilema. not sure this is do-able though....

oh and i'm just going to try to source a new bottom end and prob try to forge it.

dj, I wonder if there is any way to hook something up to suck the junk out or blow it out of there. Regardless, it looks like motor pulling time. (pissed)

I have a question for you MSP turbo people... I was wondering if my wastegate actuator bracket is bent. I attached a picture. It is bent at 45* angle. I couldn't find any pictures of other turbos where it was visible.

Shows the downpipe, oil pan, and lines. Before you say it, I fixed the line. I cut it slightly shorter and now it is perfectly level :)

I'll get some pictures of the broken tee for giggles...
 
Mine had a slight bend it it as well. I thought it was to accomodate the wastegate actuator arm which comes in at an angle.
