Question for those who called Mazda to deactivate TCU

I'm puzzled about disabling the TCU. From the posts above and other threads, it seems like the only way to disable the TCU is to call Mazda.
However, a couple days ago, my 3-year trial for Mazda Connected Services expired (2022 CX-5 Preferred). I did not opt to subscribe.
I noticed that my indicator on the Infortainment appears like the photo from TwinPeaks above. Is Mazda now doing something different, or do I still need to call to confirm my TCU is disabled?

Yes, you must call Mazda to get the TCU turned off or to confirm that it is turned off. Expiration of your Mazda Connected Services subscription does not stop of the gathering of information from your vehicle.
