2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
My AC shuts off when i switch my fan to 2 or 3, 4 works most the time but is starting to flicker on and off. Wasnt sure if the switch was bad or just a bad relay. This is really frustrating, specially in this Texas heat were having recently. Thanks is advance.

i have the same problem and its a very common problem with proteges, ive heard a few solutions.
1. connecters on back of switch are dirty
2. resistors are bad
3. a/c compressor is bad
4. not enough freon in the system
....idk which one it is but thats a few that ive heard. let me know if any of them work

The voltage controller that is located behind the glovebox in the fan box is bad. Change it and it will work that is my guess. I would say for sure if 4 was the one that worked all the time.

Blower motor resistor in all probability....

it seems most of the time the connectors come loose. A lot of people who have soldered the connectors together have had luck with fixing the problem. Only 1 & 4 work for me. If I set my switch in between 3-4 right as the fan switches to its highest speed it'll stay on.

Pinch the glovebox together and pull it out, there will be a black plastic box with the blower motor resistor being held in with 2 phillips screws and wires coming out of itself.

Found it in all-data last night at school, thanks alot for your help you all. Im new to Mazda 247 and looking foreward to get to know everyone. My car is stock right now except for the wheels, I plan on tinkering with it after I graduate from UTI. I have a few other issues going on with her right now. I bought the car the end of 2009 and it had 85000 miles on it, I know have 108k on it so im gonna give it a really good tune up and see if she will run better.
