Is the diameter of your wheels larger or smaller than stock? If it is larger, your odometer thinks you traveled fewer miles and therefore your mileage looks worse. If the diameter is smaller, your odometer things you traveled more miles and therefore your mileage looks better.
Magically, as your tires wear out, your mileage will get better and better...but the reality is that you are still getting the same mileage but your measuring data is skewed.
Rim width also has an affect on this. If you compared mileage of the same 195/50/16 tire on a set of stock rims (6.5" I think) and a set of 7" aftermarket rims. You would appear to get better mileage with the 7" rims because the sidewall is stretched slightly to fit the wider wheel. This affects the outer diameter of the tire.
Anyway...I'm just nitpicking...but at 65 mph these little things can mean the difference of a few MPGs just like driving 65 on my snow tires means I'm really driving 68.
