350 whp BAD!!!!!!

I have a hard time believing it can only handle 350hp. The GM 2.4l Ecotech 4 cyl can handle up to 500+, so can the SRT-4 (to some extent).

And yesterday when I was at the grandprix, Mazda's display was showing info on their BP Castrol Mazda car with the MZR-R putting out 500hp.

The 350whp number that floats around is (AFAIK) just a somewhat arbitrary value from forum speculation on our engine/rod failures, nothing to do with the block.

With Pauter rods and arias pistons you should be good for 400+. I saw someone on another forum with 469hp running a gt3071 at 23 psi.

330whp 342 tq sir just dynoed on stock block lets see how long it holds n this is with no boost controller stock intecooler n stock exhaust n stock fuel pump

so i went to my local Mazda dealer were we south FL guy have a tech that takes care of all our after market parts he did blackmica08 big turbo upgrade and hes worked on most of our car he tolled me that the car should handle over 400 with stock part is this true

there are so many more variables involved than 'how much HP can the block handle'

You have to take into consideration that fueling, boost, timing, EGTs, AFR, all of these things come into play.

People have blown stock blocks with less power, and some people have been fine on 380whp and NO tuning.

Nobody will know what the stock block can handle until there are some mad scientists that can reflash this ECU over and over and really push the envelope. So the real answer is, at this point it is impossible to tell what the engine can handle.

agreed. It really has been interesting to see the higher performance tuners stay so quiet. I realize they are other forums more dedicated to the more extreme side of things. If there is a 400 whp Mazdaspeed3 I would think it would be all over the front pages. Around 300 W hp is plenty enough I would think, in this car unless you are just full on!

Any Mazda engine with the proper modification and tuning can handle lot of power, i mean 400whp is a respectable amount of power, but is not impossible. I've seen Mazda's in Puerto Rico Boosting 45 Psi in a FS Engine making 752whp You just need some good amount of money and a good shop to do the job, tuning is what really counts to make power and not to blow up your motor. Im not an Expert or have that much knowledge about the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 but if im rocking around 440whp in my Mazdaspeed Protege, why a better engineer Engine with proper parts and proper tune won't be able to hold or break that mark ? i really think with a bigger turbo and some mods you can get near that mark on stock block in the MS3 i really have no doubt about it.. MS3 and MS6's have some mad mad potential. at least they are millions of times better platform than what we Pro owners had..

You really don't need that amount of power to be in a front page. i've seen a few MS3 and MS6 making some good good numbers in here. everything depends of what you are looking for to get out of your car.. i agree with you that 300whp is enough and with some good tires you can be a dangerous machine on the streets. but since this modifying s*** is so addictive you always want more and more, and when you get to a point were all of the other people that used to beat you or keep up with you you are beating them, you are seeking to go higher to another level and wanted to race and hang with some big boys, you know, Supra's, Porsche, Vette's and Cobra's Etc... if you don't make up your mind and put a limit in your needs, this s*** can get addictive and have no ending, just like your pocket if you have a deep one go head never stop...
