Might want to read my post on the remote-start system with the tech package here. Read the whole thing, but especially my update reply.
To sum up: what I found out is that aftermarket systems don't seem to "play nice" with the tech package. Albeit, I didn't try any of the advanced remote-start systems with pagers, but ultimately, if you don't want to lose the smart key keyless entry functionality, and if you don't want to have to hide one of your auxiliary keys in the car, you're best bet is the Mazda remote start. Also, be prepared, because the car is so new that a lot of installers have to do their homework to get it right. Luckily, the shop I went to was dedicated to getting it right.

yea i saw ur post on all that but i use the card buttons to lock and unlock the doors anyway. if you just use the handle it doesnt arm the factory perimeter alarm. u have to press the lock on the card twice to activate the factory alarm. so i dont mind the lock and unlock using a pager as long as i dont have to leave my other card in the car.

Uh... not sure where you got THAT info, but it's incorrect. Of COURSE it's armed when you lock without the transmitter (otherwise, what would be the point). If you have autolock enabled, it arms automatically when the doors lock automatically. If you don't have autolock enabled, pressing the request switch (the button on the door) arms the system.
Page 3-56 (and page 3-10 for autolocking) of your manual covers this.
that how it worked in my msp. press lock button once to lock all doors. press lock button twice to arm alarm (horn blows). guy at the dealer said cx7 works the same way. pressing the button on the door handle only locks and unlocks the doors. plus when i lock with the button on the card i can make the alarm go off. if i lock with the door handle button i cant make the alarm go off.
Well the guy at the dealer is wrong... LOL... seriously. He should try reading the manual. I have successfully armed the alarm with the request button as the manual tells ya to. There is no pressing the button twice to arm the system with either the smart-key/tech package or regular system.
From the manual:
How to Arm the System
1. Remove the key from the ignition
switch.
(With advanced key)
Turn the start knob to the LOCK
position.
2. Make sure the hood is closed. Close
and lock all doors and the liftgate from
the outside using the key or press the
lock button on your keyless entry
system transmitter.
(With advanced key)
Press a request switch or the lock
button on the transmitter.
The hazard warning lights will flash
once to indicate that the system is
armed.
(Without advanced key)
The following method will also arm the
theft-deterrent system:
Close the hood and the liftgate . Press
the area on the door-lock switch
marked [LOCK-SYMBOL] once. Close all doors.

just an fyi to all those wondering with in 2 weeks there is an adapter coming out for our car to make the 2way fully compatible with cars that have a smart key no more leaving a key in the car and no more loosing your keyless entry. u can use the button on the door. the part should be about $50.

And FYI to anyone reading along that doesn't know, when the Mazda remote-start is installed you don't have to have a key hidden (or "left) in your car and the smart-key continues to work as it should. It's only aftermarket systems that have not played nice with the smart-key system.
The 2-way systems are cool Jester, but I find their remotes a bit too large and quite honestly, overkill. I'm very happy with the Mazda remote-start. If it's Mazda providing the adaptor, I'd much rather they spend their time working on good iPod support for the tech package.
