1.8 Turbo?

in saying that if i got a 2.0 turbo kit would i need a new impeller in the turbo or anything mod-wise?

2.0l kit will bolt on, the only differance in the engine is that the 2.0l is stroked more.. the 2.0l and 1.8l are essentially the same motor.....

it's only a .2 liter difference, and the turbo's chosen for ALL the kits(excluding MAMs GT28,and GT30 kits) are chosen to flow at early RPM ranges.

u wont get any lag, it will be a slightly differant power curve, but essentially it will run the same...

what i heard is that if you use a 2.0 turbo on a 1.8 you'll get turbo lag...

Could a msp ecu be swapped out for the stock one if I was to get a full msp kit? Or will the ignition not like that?

Doesn't the MSP 2.0 setup use lower compression pistons/cylinders to avoid detonation under boost? Or is that old school turbo?

The MSP 2.0 is the same engine as all other 2.0 Proteges. Different ECU, but same rods, pistons, cams, etc.

oh and WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! I should name myself president of the official mazda forums welcoming crew :D

6psi max safe..
for sport-auto's.

the 1.8L is just using a straight auto tranny... so any psi is going to fry the auto tranny fairly quickly (since at least with the sport you can let off the gas when switching gears.. you'd have to guess when the tranny is about to change gears I guess in the straight auto)

let me put it this way... before I'm getting a turbo for my 1.8L auto, I'm swapping the auto for a manual (ughdance)

2.0l kit will bolt on, the only differance in the engine is that the 2.0l is stroked more.. the 2.0l and 1.8l are essentially the same motor.....

^^ Mark (BazookaJoe) has a turbo auto 2.0.. with the "straight auto tranny", not the "sport" automatic (lol @ sport automatic). Last I checked he hasn't had any tranny problems, you just gotta keep the boost low.

i have an auto tranny with 7psi, it chirps the tires from 1st to 2nd, i do let off a bit when it goes to shift, but its going like a champ....

yeah, but regardless, even at low boost it's going to reduce the life of the tranny no matter how you look at it.

really? wow, I thought you had a manual (peep)

Here's my question can I swap everything from my existing Mazdaspeed FS-DE 2.0 motor, turbo-manifold, harness, ecu ect on a FP-DE 1.8 without a problem? or the motor will run like crap?

the 1.8L is the exact same as a 2.0L, the only difference is it's bore and stroke. Thus, any bolt on that works with the 2.0L, works with the 1.8L

except for internal parts in the block, someone tried to convert the 1.8l block with 2.0l internals, idnt work..

someone tried to take a 2.0L longblock's internals and put them into a 1.8L longblock?.. the different displacement didn't give a clue that they wouldn't fit? (poke)

if you want to get very specific, stuff like the valvetrain and valve headder are different, but nothing he had was anything that wouldn't fit on the 1.8L.
