Random question that, in no way, helps with your problem- Did you have this car back in May? I ask because I visit Fort Myers a few times a year and I saw a yellow speed on McGregor near Iona when I was down there last. Just curious. I also saw another member in Jacksonville on my way back home.

yea probably was me :) lol but i am changing alot on it so look for it next time ur in fort myers a

If I would do a ECU reset would that help with the idle problem because i am seeing that what some people do and they it reprogams its self for the rpms to be right is that true? and if so how do i do the ecu reset?

i would do like bikingpro5 said first, mine starts ups fine and drives well when its cool, but once it gets warm and when i come to a stop it dies, i also have an egr valve code, just waiting for the cash to replace it now, but egr will for sure mess with your ideal, and driveability

do you think if i took it to a shop to get done do you think it would cost very much?

im personally a mx6 fs guy, my egr valve cost about 280 if i bought it, so im not sure if u have the same engine of what, but egrs are real easy to replace its usually 2 bolts and maybe two vaccum lines, nad a small gasket, very easy, do you have a chiltons of haynes manual? save your self some cash and try it your self! but with mechanica fees its at least 50-75$ an hour plus highly marked up part prices, if yo do take it to the shop i would suggest looking up the parts at rockaut, com first and see how much more they are gonna charge you, for leater referance.

Good luck

The EGR on an MSP, is a pain in the ass to get to. He's right that it's two bolts, 12mm I believe, but accessing them isn't as easy. The EGR valves on Mazdas aren't cheap. The OEM EGR is about $200, plus $9 for the gasket. I'd say a shop is going to charge you 1.5-2 hours, plus ~3% hazardous material and shop supply fees. All Data calls for .6hr. Most shops on something like that are going to round up to 1.0hr. If you came into my shop or called to get an estimate, I'd price it at no less than 1.5hr. because it's a pain to get off. Just an FYI.

Before you go wasting your time trying to clean your EGR or wasting your money buying one and replacing it, you should make sure that your PCV is good or better yet just replace it with a Purolator PV1047, check your air cleaner and replace if needed, and most importantly check the condition of your plugs and replace if needed. Also might want to do a Seafoam treatment or two.

Or, even better, diagnose the problem correctly and accurately.

You should have posted that to begin with, which is basically what I am saying only with specific things to check out that are known to cause the MSP to idle incorrectly at times when they have been unchecked and not replaced. .

The EGR is not hard to replace at all, I don't know why anyone would think it was difficult.

There's no room to work down there. The job itself isn't hard. Just a pain in the ass.

Agreed. Not saying that it was fun, but its definitely do-able. I wouldn't pay anyone to do it.
You've gotta realize there are people on here that have absolutely zero ability to repair and/or service their own car. I'll tear down and rebuild my engine or transmission in a day, whereas other people wouldn't even drain/fill fluids.

Yah but what's a few hours of ur time and maybe a bloody knuckle verses a few hundred dollars
