Blown engine?!

All I have is corksport fmic and 3" turbo back exhaust...don't see that putting a hole in a piston. Anybody else wanna back me up on that before I start a war with mazda.

hmm. well its cases like this that make the warranty thing tough. if you were having symptoms before the blow, then i would have pulled everything off and taken it in. but now, even if you put the stock parts back on, its still hard to prove what caused it....if all you had was a FMIC and exhaust, that *should not* have done any direct damage. however, a FMIC installed improperly could have done some damage.

No boost controller, this kit is pretty idiot proof. I've installed much more difficult items on other cars so I'm pretty confident I didn't screw anything up, and I had no symptoms what so ever...that I picked up on anyway. I was just cruisin down the highway and at the end of the off ramp ended up dead.

its not totally idiot proof. did you have the 3" maf housing or the revised housing that they are sending out to those with problems? when i had the 3" maf housing installed i would get random misfires. i could only think that if you drove it hard and got a couple of those you could have blown something.

also you say there is a whole in the engine or no? if there isn't and the engine just dies i would say check all your connections and make sure that one of the couplers didn't blow off, but from what you are saying that might not be the case.

Hole in a piston or hole in the block? Hole in a piston suggests that something metal got sucked into the engine.

No boost controller with a TBE and a FMIC would def. send you into major boost spikes causing you to potentially over boost... Did you monitor your boost levels with a boost gauge at least?

oh good catch. i missed that the hole was in the piston, i assumed the piston made the hole.

Yeah it was in the piston, so they said...they also mentioned today that they didn't even take apart the motor yet...i smell fishyness.

Yeah they just tried the same thing with me. Mine blew up last week. I had a boost controller on the car. I put it all back to stock, but I guess they could tell because I guess I used a different hose on the blow off valve, so they said that I had an aftermarket boost controller on the car. Where I actually put the boost controller was all stock hoses. But they told me yesterday they won't cover my warranty. $14k for a new engine, and only mazda can install it or my entire warranty is void. Mazda warranties are shady as hell!!!

sorry...that was me. (burp)

oh, but on a side note, how can they know it was a piston if the engine hasn't been torn apart?

Maybe they pulled all the plugs out and poured liquid into each cyl.
And on one of the cylinders the liquid did not come up.

yeah, but that doesn't prove a hole in a piston. that could mean a handful of things

that wouldnt work. even if there was a hole in the piston, the area beneath the piston is sealed. and that air pocket would keep any liquid from pouring into it without a way of the air escaping.

on top of that thats a stupid way to test if theres a hole in a piston... which ive never heard of happening, how in the helll are they gonna get the liquid out and it cleaned with out a teardown?

a compression test would be more likely, but once again, that wouldn't *prove* a hole without a teardown. they need to tear it apart before they tell you whats wrong, and before they tell you if its your problem or Mazda's.

and honestly, that all depends on what they find. if something came through your FMIC, then sorry, but thats on you. if it was something else failing, then thats on them.

Hey i'm going to post a new thread in the engine issue category if you or anybody else you know has had their motor go please put in a comment how many miles, what mods were on it when you took it in to the dealer, where the dealer is and when it occured. I'm calling a lawyer tomorrow. I've got my old man calling around tomorrow too he's one of the suits for Ford in the world headquarters building so maybe he can get some fire burning. I tried getting a hold of the district whomever deems the car's warranty to be voided but nobody is giving me the number for him i'm just getting the run-around from customer service and the dealer jerks.

I dont want to sound smart or anything but iv held in my hands 6" wide
diesel pistons with quarter size holes through them completely , so believe
me the water or liquid would flow staight to the oil pan.
