Why such low brand perception?

All spoken in a calm manner without being rude, I do talk loud, but I'm NOT trying to make you look dumb or trying to be and A-Hole.

I simply can't understand what Mazda has to do to improve its brand perception.

1. Short Answer:

They don't need to improve ANYTHING in the USA, they don't care
about US market AS MUCH .....because....

Long Answer:

... Mazda treats the USA market like a pure after thought.
Living in Japan now... I can tell you first hand Mazda is the
benchmark of sport, reliable and practical automakers here,
with Toyota a very close second. So why WORRY about the
USA market at all when all your chips made here in your own
nation:

SEE THAT ARROW TO THE MINI CAR SALES?????

If you lived in Japan, and know that Japan too is going through a bad
market and bad economic times, they LISTENED to their own folks and
EVERYONE over here is going to K-CAR's in the mass amounts.

Kei-cars get 60 MPG !!

Why then don't the USA do the same, LOL! Yeah right,
Kei cars are no thicker than a can of beans, and run on a
660 cc engine, it won't even get one fat ass American up
a hill on a GOOD DAY. (boobs)

Why worry about a few 100,000 sales in the USA when these
little bastards Kei Car Japan are selling like freaking HOT CAKES over here! Rally your raw materials, work force and GO WHERE THE YEN is at ... (lol2)(2thumbs)

Japan is hurting right now, yes the Yen is stronger than the
$$$ but only because the $$$ is so weak, what do you think
that says about the Yen? LOL! (hand)

Which brings me to my next point...

2. Short Answer:

Japan = Socialist nation, (For the better of the people,
good of the nation and give people what people want,
that is why they've gone through a dozen prime ministers
in the last 10 years (rofl))

USA = Democratic nation, (Keep everyone fat, dumb
and happy and free medical plan *Rolls eyes*.)
oh and have to deal with the most powerful woman in the USA....(moon)

Mazda said F that and won't deal with all the time and effort to
get a car approved in the USA. Mazda America is JUST good will
to the USA.

Hey look how long it took to get the NISSAN SKYLINE GT-R selling in the USA...

Long Answer:
Japan = Free market CONSUMER DRIVEN market
USA = D.O.T., NHTSA, consumer protection agency,
SUE me? Well Sue you! type market.

finger-pointing1.jpg

Mazda (unlike Toyota) told the USA to go get lit when
it came to HOW to build a cat and what the automaker
thinks is correct and safe. Mazda paid for that through
the 90's and still today.

3. Short Answer:

Mazda = Crap quality CHEAP LEVEL cars,
and Mazda = Super Great Awesome Quality EXPENSIVE CARS.

Long Answer:

Toyota made the Corolla ... was not a great,
was not a crap car, so they sold a shitload of
them... thus building their customer base, thus
the fat, dumb, and happy still have great loyalty
to Toyota, Just because they made a D.O.T. level
car and it ran well, smart Toyota.

Guess what... Mazda focused on it's own nation
and IF a Japanese person can afford it, they would buy
Mazda BEFORE they buy Toyota, Subaru, Dihatsu,
Mitsubishi, etc.

All the other Asia brand cars = mass produced crap IMO (There are few exceptions).

Mazda is doing just fine IN JAPAN. ;) (thumb)

.... so to answer your question... (Long Answer) all that translates
to the USA has got a bone up their aaass and Mazda has no time to
meet so many safety standards or care about Mr. and MRS. fat dumb and happy and so they toss a few our way to make some money and keep
us happy...I hope they DON'T sell the cheap ones, DOH! to late!
Trust me, cheap Mazda cars are really bad.(argh)

They rank as the lowest Asian automaker below even Suzuki and Kia. And what exactly did Subaru do to get such a large jump in perception?

They made cars to appease to the FAT, DUMB and HAPPY market
that is the USA , SUE ME? Hey SUE YOU! (rofl2)

Finally, I think the 2 coming to North America soon could further reinforce this perception that Mazdas are cheap".

I agree, if they throw a few FAT, DUMB and HAPPY cars and WE bite off
on them and they make a few 10,00,000... who cares, but that is just icing on the FAT, DUMB and HAPPY CAKE.

Hope that helps... (headbang)

Sorry to rant a bit, but it's so fun to see the USA from OUTSIDE the USA. (sun)
Peace!(rei)

Opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one :), but please keep it on the cars topic

Thanks

OUCH! You got the attention of a Mod!
Anyway, I am glad you preceeded your sermon with a disclaimer, Sarge, but I get where you are coming from. Trying to NOT get off-topic, I find it a shame that the US has such a high percentage of citizens that are clueless, meaning globally unaware. I have gotten used to getting news info from as many English-speaking foreign sources as possible daily via the Grand Internet god so I cannot be viewed as one of the sheeples out there. That awareness actually got me hooked on global cars, not just the ones we see sold here on our shores, and to be truthful, we are missing out on alot of stuff. Not all of it is @ss-kicking stuff like the original WRX, EVO and GT-R, but even some cool practical stuff that Europe and Asia just think we wouldn't buy enough of to make it worth the export costs. Such as the mini-MPV ex.: Mazda5!

I am super-happy that Mazda's management got to take such a risk as to bring this thing to battle the giant mobile-living-rooms that maxi-vans have become. Everyday, I step outside and look at my 5 and say to myself "this thing is sooo hip, sooo cool. Glad I didn't sucker up & get an Odyssey."

But back to the original topic, to be truthful, I don't know if I will ever buy another Mazda product as long as I am Stateside. Nothing else fits my needs or my perceivable future needs that is in Mazda's lineup. If the MS6 Sportwagon seated 7, tho...I would have bought one for sure!
