whether I'm driving standard or not my eyes are always on the road.
Deer, children, and drunk drivers don't care what you drive. My reaction time has saved me from an accident numerous times
...in fact I got pissed at myself one time (when I was driving my 1990 Grand Marquis) because if i had slammed on the brakes 2 seconds later I would have had a new car on the other person's insurance. (it was very rare that a driver didn't see a giant white marquis coming down the road, this person obviously decided looking left was not their job.)
Anyway, it does take a little time to find a groove with driving standard, but as soon as you do, you have the whole car at your finger tips. In the event of an emergency, the car will stop just as fast if you slam both the brake and the clutch to the floor.
The only advantage auto drivers have IMO is 5mph traffic...they can let off the brake and roll w/o pressing the gas. Standard driver's must work to go 5mph.
