Why do dealers do this? Overfill oil then argue?

The manual also says:

The level is normal if it is between the MIN and MAX marks.

And it was also true of the GM and even Mercedes cars I've had.

So half-way is fine.

Unless you're trying to protect your reputation amidst issues with oil burning engines. In that case, that is one of the only reasons someone would be near the MIN line, and you should have them fill it to MAX to buy some time.

The manual is accurate.

And I stay away from the MAX line because I don't want to take the hit to power or economy.
That gentleman has a lot of excellent videos regarding oil. Big fan.

yes the dipstick clearly shows almost a liter over (3/16th -1/4" over top dot). Note 4.8 liter ... no reason 5.5 appears and I've questioned them and they swear up and down thats what my car takes. Despite the manual.
That's not a liter over. From the min to max dots is one liter. You're probably about .2-.3 liters over which is hardly anything. Please show us the dipstick

5L jug of Supertech puts it 3/4 of the way between the lines for me.. I like the Supertech jugs because they're actually 5L vs 5 QT that are often sold (4.73L).

I have been just leaving it like that, as not to frig around with extra jugs. Funny though, I bet the factory fill had 5.5L in it, because the oil level was a good distance above the top dot.

Interesting. I usually get the 5 quart jugs at Walmart of either Castro Edge or Pennzoil Platinum and same...3/4 of the way. Is it really 5L and not 5 quarts?

You have a 2.5L NA with 4.8 quarts / 4.5 L on specs. The OP has a 2.5T with 5.1 quarts / 4.8L on specs. So the total oil quantity is different.

And based on member’s reports here, 5.25 quarts puts your oil level to the Full mark, and 5.5 quarts puts the 2.5T to the Max mark.

Ah that makes sense.

It's too bad because the price of oil in a quart bottle is much higher than the price in a 5 quart jug. Usually I buy them at wallmart. It's not worth it to me to buy a single quart.

The saga continued with the dealership redoing the change. They went from 5.5 to 5.2. So again, not 4.8.

My main point in this. Mazda says dont overfill in the manual. They make a point of that line. But Mazda would not confirm with me the actual capacity. They keep keep avoioding that. The guy that redid my oil change told me 4.8 wont do it. He showed me. He drained oil completely. He did 5 litre. Then he topped up the .2. It was just under the top fill bubble.

However the dealership said from teh start that the first oil change was indeed wrong because the tech entered the wrong code on the oil pump. They said each car has a "code" and he entered the wrong one. That seems weird as why on earth would there be codes and not just say "5.2 enter"?

Reduces human error. You can fat finger the numbers, and you have to assume they know the correct amount to use, so I wouldn't set up a system that way. Of course, that didn't save them in this case.

The manuals always say not to overfill, it can cause foaming, maybe blow a seal, but it seems like a lot of people do it with no problems. I don't think a pint over would actually hurt the engine, but you're not supposed to do it.
