Where's the sunroof/moonroof?

I just bought the Mazdaspeed Protege, but I wont be getting it until the end of next week. The anticipation is just killing me! Anyways, I was surprise and little disapointed that there's no sunroof/moonroof on the car! The guy at the dealer told me Mazda couldn't put one on because it wouldn't go well with the moving of the frame or something like that. But there's Mustangs out there with 200+ HP and they have sunroofs. What's the deal with this? Anybody else disapointed about not having it?

there was a recent thread about adding an aftermarket moonroof / sunroof. the general consensus is to NOT do it for a variety of structural, cost, and quality reasons.

as for Mazda's insistence that there be no such option - purely a cost cutting measure in the same vein as removing the cruise control.

Yes i agree with you ,Mazda should have put a moonroof and cruise on this car!If it had these two things it would be Almost the perfect ride!:D

I agree, sunroof and cruise control would be nice. I mentioned to my dealer that I thought the sunroof should have been an option but he pointed out that since the car was made in very limited numbers, Mazda couldn't (or didn't want to) build any variations to try and accommodate different tastes, they just built them all the same. I suppose this makes sense as other limited cars don't have many options either. I was looking at the Spec-V and it only came in two versions: with the option package or without.

Still, it probably would have been worth a bit extra for the sunroof, and I definitely think cruise control is a must. I don't do a lot of highway driving, but anytime I am on the highway for more than a few minutes, the cruise control is very nice. I drove from Vancouver BC to Sacramento last year in a Cherokee with broken cruise control and it sucked.

Oh well, they didn't include them and we all bought the car anyway :)

TRUE TRUE draghkar,WE ARE ALL MSP owners,so we all took the good with the bad!:D I just love the beautiful sound of BOOST!;)

cruise control is pointless. i drive 150 miles one way a couple times with no cruise, no problems. i guess my foot is strong...

also, the sunroof doesnt bother me ONE bit. i dont care if i can look at the sky while driving.

These are just nice features to have !I love having a moonroof ,it's nice to have the open feeling
*MISSING MY DEL SOL VERY BADLY NOW THAT ITS SPRING !*:'(

Yea, not having a sunroof is kinda a bummer, but I don't know, it hasn't been bothering me that much lately, even though the weather is nicer.

No Cruise sucks though. Maybe I can add it though ...

As for no sunroof, this gives me a great excuse to pick up a used Miata :)

The MP3 was the same deal.
I had a moonroof installed, aftermarket. It is very nice, one of the best I've seen (even compared to factory units), but there is an issue in that the headliner isn't quite right since it isn't factory. It looks good, but it isn't solid in some places (kind of just fabric stretched over the roof). I was told that Mazda was going to come out with a cruise control for the MP3 (which would likely work on the MSP), but I have yet to hear that one is out.

Has Mazda ever sold anything like that? It'd be cool if they had stuff like boost gauges too, but so far it looks like all you can really do is make your regular Protege look/handle like an MSP.

Yeah thats about true because Mazda won't even ship out a turbo for warranty untill they get the old one back:wtf: I guess they really dont want anyone to be able to make an exact replica of the MSP. Thats good for us MSP owners but bad for you guys that don't have an MSP!

three 600 mile trips so far
just gotta give the foot a shake

every hundred miles or so......
