Yes- that's what I figured I'd rather waste some money and be safe. The car did not have a lot of service records. However, I bought it from a very reputable mercedes dealer, so my guess is that they changed it. It came with a manual but I wanted an opinion from another owner. Is the PP 5W-30 synthetic?
HAHAHAHA. I wouldn't put the words "reputable" and "dealer" in the same sentence, regardless of what brand.
I got my first oil change at my mazda dealership and I saw that they put regular 5w-30 oil in. I asked about using synthetic oil and they recommended against it. I forget exactly what the explanation was, but it had something to with oil leaking?
Like the above post says, the manual also recommends regular oil. So I'm thinking to not spend the extra money and just good quality regular oil.
Don't be a fool. Mazda dealers don't like it because it cant be used in the rotary engine, and for a while Mazda avoided synthetic all together. They are now ok with it on all of their models except the RX-8. I have asked a handful of dealers and gotten some retarded answers. They start going off on some claim about this or that. Improper heat transfer, smoking turbos, voided warranty ...etc etc. Like any of these idiots know the first thing about heat transfer. I have gotten multiple contradicting answers from the same dealer on different calls. They ramble on like a bunch of pot smoking teenagers telling misinformed stories about police oppression.
"Uhhh I heard there was this one kid who uhh used synthetic oil and his turbo exploded. Its because the synthetic oil is too slippery and it makes the blades turn too fast until they explode soo...."
yeah.... whatever.
Take some college level physics and chemistry courses and the answer will be clear. As long as it meets the specs in the manual, its fine.
