What Oil To Use?

im using rotella full synthetic 5w-40 and my car runs well, 36,000 miles and still no smoking turbo And about the jiffy lube remarks, i work at jiffy lube and i treat all the cars that come in like my own, i use the oil the customer wants and in no way do i rip them off, i even give them 15% off their invoice every time (even though i could get written up for that). So just because you have had a bad experience with jiffy lube doesnt mean they are all the same.

so a couple of jiffy lubes in california represent the whole company now? our store doesnt even sell engine flushes or fuel injector cleaning. i was just saying all jiffy lubes are not dishonest and treat every car like s***.

that's because they made an investigation in, guess where, california. if it's happening around the LA area, how much more across the country? as a consumer, after seeing something like that - no matter where it is especially when the company "promised" not to do it again and still do it and the company actually TRAINS their employees to do dirty work, i would not do any business with them in anywhere.

it's great that you practice it the right way and i thank you for that. but unfortunately, there's a lot of others who just cheat and lie to their customers. it greatly reflects the company's goal, reputation, and integrity.

I just changed with Penzoil Platinum 5W-30... it's great stuff.

Another Rotella T 5W-40 user with good results with oil analysis to prove it. A 5 or 10W-40 is the weight to use in this car, despite what Mazda recommends in their manual in this country. In other countries, the MS3/MPS manuals give you a choice of viscosities to use. Same car, same motor, different fuel economy and emissions regulations requiring thinner and thinner oils here.

every single time I have been to a quick oil and lube joint they have told me I "needed" an engine flush. Never have I allowed them to do such a thing. If your smart you won't either. any benefits that are theoretical are far outweighed by the potential damage. If an engine is that badly clogged with sludge and crap, the only way to get it all out effectively is a complete tear down and rebuild.

Not to mention they have no explanation why a car with only 24k on it and 1 year old could possibly need an engine flush, especially considering it gets regular 3 to 4k interval changes.

I have never had an issue going to a dealer. With my Toyota Camry I split the services (for oil changes) between dealers and Jiffy Lube about 50/50. With my G35, I went to speciality shop that did the super charger install and paid $119 an oil change. That hurt... With my two Mazda's, I only go to the dealer. Why? I had a g/f that had a Mustang during the time I had my Camry and G35. The Jiffy Lube (two of them) did the following during that time:

Didn't replace my oil cap.
Didn't fill air in my tires to the correct pressure (Nearly 80%+ of the time!)
Didn't fill air in her tires correctly. (This was the last straw for me... Her tires were at 22, 45, 18, and 55 pounds --- after we left.)
Used the wrong oil in my car. (I only found out because I was standing right there.)
Stripped the oil pan bolt.

Dealers don't touch my tires, so all they have to do is change the oil, which in my experience they can do better than Jiffy Lube.
