What have you done to your P5 today?

Things move pretty fast at 2000+ rpm. Almost anything can happen when a belt breaks. My sister's old Neon had a similar instance. Bent 3 valves.

Neon engines always were interference design. VERY interference. The Neon forums I used to frequent were vigilant about reminding people to replace the timing belt every 50-60k miles, specifically because of it.

It used to be a frequent occurrence, also, when Neon owners would have their car in the shop for some other issue (most commonly replacing the crappy factory headgasket) and the mechanic doing the work torqued the cam gear bolt(s) waaaay too tight for spec (which was a lot lower than you'd think) - a few miles down the road on the way home the bolt would snap, cam gear(s) would spin free, and valvetrains were destroyed. (I'm nearly certain that's the sequence of events - it's been 6 years plus since I had a Neon and my old forum doesn't exist anymore.)

Also, (and I know it's off-topic), I really like parentheses. (Apparently.)

Lot of stuff going on.

Got a call from a good friend and Protege parts dealer who offered me a sweet deal. I may or may not have some very fun part in the works for the P5.

Ordered MSP door sill from Lewis (have been shipped)

Had an accident...

I was driving to Walmart around Midnight for a diaper run. On the highway doing about 70mph when a Semi Truck tire made itself known. The tire was intact, not blown, laying sideways in the center of the left lane. It was sitting in a dip hiding from my headlights, making it impossible to see until it was too late. My car got air born and jumped the tire. I joined a car on the side of the road who had hit it before me and was soon joined by 4 other cars after that. There was no mechanical damage to the car.

The aesthetic damage is as follows: Ripped off front bumper tab on driver's side, lost 1 MSP fog delete, ejected my center grill (I recovered it and thankfully have a backup), separated part of my driver's side headlight and it's lens, dropped part of my rear bumper.

I was able to finish the drive to Walmart to get what I needed. Yesterday, I began the rebuild. I remounted the rear bumper (looks fine), and pulled the whole front end.

With the front end apart, I took the time to do some wire management, remounted my ballasts in a better location, and clean some parts. I JB welded broken parts on my front bumper which is currently in the kitchen completing the 24 hour cure process. I needed to reseal my headlights so I opened them both up, cleaned the lenses, replaced the light-gunmetal headlight shrouds with the Black Chrome shrouds I originally painted, then sealed both headlights with clear RTV silicone. When I get home, I will reassemble headlights and bumper. I need to pop in a center grill and order a new set of MSP fog deletes. If my parts dealer gets me my parts, I may not need a center grill ;P

Our engines on not interference engines I repeat they are not into series engines I don't care if your timing belt broke at 5000 rpm those valves did not collide with the Pistons the only possible way that could happen is if the keep those fallout if I was you I would get a second opinion because mechanics are thieves

Sorry to hear Cam! :( Sounds like you've got things under control and the damage wasn't too bad. Gave you a kick in the butt to get those shrouds swapped though. ;)

Considering the mechanic is an old high school friend of both of my wife's parents and I've dealt with him for the last 20yrs, I'm not calling him a thief or a liar. And exactly why I was willing to pay $500 for towing so HE could look at the car.

Seeing our cars are DOHC, this could be a possibility? http://www.motorweek.org/features/goss_garage/timing_belts2

I'm not calling your mechanic a thief. I said mechanics are thieves I have seen some really shady mechanics in my life and in my line of work and I guess you are right it is a possibility so I stand corrected. is on the internet so it has to be true they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true.( I read that on the Internet) lol well if its just to vals just getting used to I have a job it's not hard to do on this car

Yeah, it's coming together. I needed to reseal the driver side headlight anyways since it had a moisture leak

Discovered what caused my heat issues that happened over winter:

Just got my Rally Armor mudflaps. Going to be installing them this weekend, only thing I'm not sure of is weather i should leave them with the 13" width or cut them down some.

Some nice things going on in here.

Yesterday I stopped at the local salvage yard and ordered a used engine. Has ~80K and should be here on Tuesday. Mechanic said he'll give me a call when it comes in so we can look it over before he starts anything. Items def. on the agenda to replace are timing belt (duh...lol), water pump and rear main seal. While it's out I'm going to have him do the rear and DS motor mounts as well (front and PS were just changed in Jan.). Figure it doesn't get any easier to change out the rear so get er done.

Until Monday, I'm drving a 2012 Civic. Sux but had to get a rental to get to/from my second job for the weekend.

DDM HID Kits are coming in tomorrow!
6000k for low beams and 3000k for fogs!
Ordered yellow fog overlays from blue bat mobile
and
just placed my order for a twm short shifter for p5 with polyurethane bushings!
Cant wait

^those overlays will look beautiful. I had to make a cut in mine to get them to conform to the curve of the lens. Other than that, I used the extra to make my led on my phone yellow!

Im thinking of the short shifter this summer, as well as some suspension bits and bobs.

Would a wheel bearing going sound squeaky when there's a certain amount of pressure put on it? My pass side does that when I turn left slightly... And it pulls to the left slightly which leads me to believe its a bearing?
