What have you done to your P5 today?

I started the restoration on my dad's '69 Firebird Convertible over the summer...took it back up to my work to store it mid-November so I could have my garage spot back and not have to scrape ice and snow off my car.

Then I tried to get this project done for another forum member before the weather got crappy, but it's taken way too long.

Understatement of the century right there.

On topic: Nothing still. I really miss my P5 for sure... I can't wait to have it back when it's done.

Bled my clutch this morning, it went much better than last time (only ended up using ~150ml of brake fluid). Something was definitely wrong with one of my old cylinders because now the slave cylinder rod pushes out further than it ever has with less pedal stroke distance. This means I can finally set the clutch engagement point lower to the floor, it won't feel like I'm driving a tractor anymore :D

Also, happy new year's!

nice, i need to bleed mines adn see if thats my prob. or maybe clutch is starting to go bad

Just recently changed the manual trans fluid with redline MT-90
Installed 5000k HID low beams (awesome)
Yellow vinyl overlays on the fog lights
Front bumper turn signal mod, fog light mod
300w 4 channel amp mounted under drivers seat, 8" powered subwoofer mounted under passenger seat. All hooked up to an existing aftermarket head unit and door speakers. Stereo now rocks! In a few days my Racing Beat catback is going in.

CheeseHelmet, I'm in dire need of bleeding my clutch cylinders. Hell, I think I need to replace them soon. Did you replace your master & slave cylinders?

Yep, I replaced them both for about $50+shipping (from rockauto). I used a dorman part (CS650067) for the slave cylinder and an Exedy part (MC213) for the master cylinder. If you do end up getting the Exedy MC, you'll need to re-use the old hose clamps, the ones they provide you with are too big.

It was a pretty straightforward job, the most annoying part is working under the dash to get at the nut that holds the master cylinder in place (use a magnetic socket so you don't lose the nut). I'd recommend you start a few days in advance soaking the nut on the hard line connected to the slave cylinder with some penetrating oil. The heat and exposure to road salt made that area very rusty on my car. But that was the only fastener that gave me trouble all the other nuts and bolts came out with ease.

Bleeding the dry system was interesting. Just pumping the pedal didn't do much, what I found worked quite well was to push the slave cylinder rod all the way in (you should see air bubbles come out of the brake fluid reservoir) then pump the pedal until the rod comes out a couple centimeters. I repeated this a few times until I was able to build pressure in the system.

Drove it to get groceries and now the brake light is going on and off... time for new brakes.
