What have you done to your MS3 today?

30K service. New coolant, P/S fluid , Trans fluid , syn oil. And fabricated side exit exhaust.

P.S. 5W/40 is the secret to stop smokong turbo's. Its part of a dealer TSB.

been doing this since day 1 with the speed6 and now I fully plan on doing the same thing with the speed3 :D

5w40 huh? tell me more

Here's a little blurb taken from Mazda6 forums:

"The theory behind the smoking issue is that at idle, the PCV does not allow enough vacuum to escape from the crankcase and the pressure overcomes the the oil return to push back on the turbo seals. This predominately happens when you reduce backpressure on the exhaust."

running the thicker oil fixes this issue....

I've been using Mobil 1 0W-40. Didn't help. The PTP PCV fix has seemed to. I burned a little today. But so far... that's it. Obviously time will tell.

yup, sounds about right. i assume you are rolled in the rear?

laraw, looking clean! perhaps a red brake light lens in the spoiler to round it out?

yes I am rolled in the rear buddy. I had 18x8.5" +43 with 235/40/18 falken rt 615s before, and rubbed EVERY SO SLIGHTLY on the rear bumper/fender connector. I think I will be fine, and going with the 215 will allow me to have more room to play with if I want to go with more aggressive spacers in the future.

gotcha. I actually trimmed back the bumper/fender connection area on the inside with a dremel, it pretty much eliminated that occasional rub. but sounds like you are on the right track!

^^ oh yea that is my plan. I have hammered this area a bit, but I haven't trimmed it. I am going to attempt to do that this time before putting the wheels on. I got a bunch of stuff planned before the wheels go on, can't wait for it to warm up and get started.

Those red tails look good Lara. I know the 04s had all red tails, but was it only offered in the sedan model in the states? I don't recall seeing any hatches around with them, even the yellow 3s had black tails I believe. They went to black in 05 on all models. My 05 strato blue hatch was like that

Thanks. Yeah, the red tail lights only came on the sedan in the US. The tail lights I purchased came on base model hatches in the UK.

Lara, look gooooood. I love the red tails on the cwp and cosmic blue. Ever considered a red overlay for the 3rd brake light to finish the whole red tail theme off? Would look niiiiice. :D

is this recommended just for cars with upgraded exhaust then or would all ms3's benefit from 5w40

Thanks!! Yes, I'm definitely going to put a red overlay over the 3rd brake light. I'm going out after work tonight to find some film to mess with. =D

dirty? all your pictures make me wish i had gone with CWP, now this? i'm done with black cars

I promise, it is FILTHY. It is just hard to tell from farther away.

Easier to see here..

Usually I love everything that you do to your car lara but the red tails are something that I definitely would not do..But again that is just me! lol.

As long as youre enjoying your car that is all that matters.

^off topic. noticed you used to have a marine sticker on your car. in the corps?

My Dad was a machine gunner and tunnel rat with the USMC in Vietnam.

Different strokes. I absolutely love them and have gotten nothing but compliments in person from friends/family and strangers alike. =-)
