Here's my effort from last weekend that I didn't have a chance to post. Took my badges off and did a few coats of VHT Niteshades, then clear. I love how the Niteshade spray ran a little bit from the peaks on the badges, giving it almost a 2-tone look.
I haven't put the Mazdaspeed6 badge back on, I just wanted to leave it clean for a while to see if I prefer that way, but I really like how the paint came out so I'll be putting it back on.
A before and after of the front and back. It just started to rain after I finished my wash. Oh, and I had a lot of highway driving over Easter weekend, and it seems the front has already chipped. I'll need to touch up and hit it with a super-protective many layers of clear.
Qwik, your car looks amazing after your detail. I'm starting to get multiple chips in the hood and it kills me.

OJ-I have gotten so many chips on the front of my hood it isnt funny. I just used some white touch up and then put the sealer coat before a wax coat.
TX Speed 6- I don't know how well the vinegar will work. I have tried that in the past and it did nothing. Clay wouldn't even remove the water spots on my hood and definetly not the windows. I used the 3m rubbing compund with an electric car buffer. Went over it a couple times and all the water spots are gone.
As far as what got the water spots off the windows I used this stuff called Presta Strata ultra cutting creme.

Really? Do you have the exact Whitewater Pearl, or have you used something else? I'll have a go at filling them before I do my spring wax. The worst is the one on the roof where a large rock came flying out from under a dumptruck.

heh, thats why my front end was recently re-done. so many chips, potholes in day hood.
thankfully, your white touch-up looks half descent. touch-up for BCM doesnt match with a chit. pisses me off.
btw, claybaring works just fine for water on windows. it doesnt work only if the spots have sat there for a long long time.
btw, after claying the whole car AND windows, i also suggest wax for windows as well.

Thanks. I just use a bright white dupli color touch up from autozone. I used to have the exact matching pearl until I dropped it on the ground and shattered the glass case it was in... It seems turn turn a brownish white over time I guess from getting dirty.

If vinegar and clay won't get the spots off, you have some serious hard water and your paint got hosed from that. Glad to hear you got it off. Water spots can be really nasty if you're not careful.

Hmmm yey meng that is bad!!! hardwater FTL.
white doesnt show it as bad, but dark colors would show that & scratches it would leave behind SO easily.
6 months later im still trying to restore my paint after abuse from previous owners.
The thing that kills me about paint is when you start to get spiderwebbing in the paint no matter what you do. It can be fixed quickly with a really light polish, but you gotta be careful too.
Found out my polisher and pads are at the apt., so I'll be putting that together tonight and hoping to get the car done this weekend.

I'll let you guys know how my PC 7424XP works out. I'm hoping it's a good start in the detailing world. I've got about a half dozen cars lined up for detailing work too, so that's going in my "down payment" fund.

Bird s***. Hard water is bad, but sun can be avoided by keeping the paint protected. Hard water is one of those inevitable things that even if you wax it, it'll still end up happening.
both can be equally as bad.
If one does not keep a good protective layer on their car, the sun will eventually fade badly.
If one does not consistently & quickly remove hardwater spots, the buildup can be lethal to paint too.
both simply are a matter of attentiveness of the car owner.

+1. It's a acidic as hell. I detailed my sisters 3 the other day (she lives in Chicago, pigeons FTL) Considering she never washes it, their was 2 spots that neither clay bar nor Bug & Tar remover and elbow grease could remove it, so I guess she's SOL. It's literally a quarter sized brown spot on her roof.
Her car is bashed up pretty good from parking on the street, but I was amazed how a wash, wax, claybar, rubbing compound and minor buffing made scuffs disappear.
