What have you done to your CX-5 today?

I tried to get the 2.5n/a to 14.5psi boost and it won't survive or will explode. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Winter tires are on steel rims (finally). First impressions are steering seems heavier. Glad to have these on before the snow starts really falling!

Just out of curiosity: what's the deal with the steel rims? I learned to drive on snow ( manual transmission - long time ago) but I never knew or nobody told me anything about this. Is it better for the car to have steel rims in the winter?

Far cheaper than alloys, bend instead of crack in cold weather (it can be hard to see curbs when there’s snow banks blocking view), and they sort of protect the brakes from snow buildup. Lots of times driving between Duluth and Houghton in 8”+ of snow I’d arrive at my destination with the inside of the wheels absolutely caked with snow. It can cause weird vibrations until cleared.

Cleaned the throttle body today. Never cleaned it so I was curious to see how dirty it was. As many other people pointed, once you remove the assembly as I did, do not force the valve open, leave it the way it is or you can damage the whole assembly.

That's something I would like to do....also the MAF and MAP sensors.

Replaced interior lights to LED...huge difference! New tires, Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3.
Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3, good choice. On my other vehicle, i did LED's. No doubt they were bright. But at times I found it to be a little too bright depending on the conditions. On my current CX-5, I have no plans on doing LED's. I'm actually satisfied with the light output.

Regarding the Pirelli's, they are asymmetrical. There's an "inside" and "outside" orientation. I didn't know that and neither did the installer. Three of the tires were mounted incorrectly. Took them back and had them redone.

Serpentine belt broke on the freeway Wednesday evening. ...
Hmmmmm. I don't think I've seen anyone posting of breaking a belt on the road. What year and miles for your cx5? Does it live in extreme conditions? The next thought in my mind is that the belt itself didn't fail but rather a component that is driven by the belt failed and took out the belt.

I do like the design of the water pump driven by it's own separate belt 👍 that's handy for limping home (for as long as your battery lasts anyway). Good system.

Miles around 164.000, still the original belt. So it was long due. Belts are consumable, eventually they snap. It happened Wednesday evening on the freeway, at 55-60 miles/hour traffic. I heard the noise but because of the music, I wasn't sure what happened. Turned off the music, listened to the car, no weird noise, no lights on the dashboard, nothing, so I kept going. 15-20 minutes later, boom! a big, red message popped up on the dashboard, on the HUD, something like "charging system malfunction, stop the car immediately " and the battery icon came on the dashboard. Thought about the noise I've heard earlier so I kind of knew it was the alternator belt. At that point I was less than 10 miles away from home so I kept driving. I got lucky, made it home with no other problems. Called the dealer this morning, they sent a tow truck, took it to the dealer, replaced both belts and the belt tensioner and 650$ later my car is good to go. Out of curiosity, I looked up the distance traveled without alternator, is was around 35 miles.

Totally agree. I would've been screwed if the water pump belt would've failed, too. So out of caution I decided to replace the water pump belt together with the serpentine one.

Map light bulbs -- ordered several of the LED 5000K bulbs from VLEDS, with a claimed 170 lumens. Should arrive late next week or the week after. Hopefully it'll be heads and shoulders above the anemic DE3175's currently in the car. Don't use them much, but I darned well want them bright and a warm-to-daylight quality of light.

I replaced the serpentine and water pump belts along with the tensioner on our 2016.5 a few months ago at about 185,000 miles on the OEM equipment. Still looked in decent shape when I pulled them off but I figured at this point, new belts would take us to 360k so might as well just change 'em 🤷‍♂️

I was ready for a fight on the water pump stretch belt from forum stories I've read but it came off and went back on super easy lol. The whole process was pretty straightforward and didn't even bust any knuckles up. Go figure haha.

I tend to not go past 100k miles to replace belts & hoses but my Infiniti requires replacement of serpentine every 36k miles so that one is the outlier.

I went with LEDS in all the interior lights, huge upgrade makes it feel much more premium. For the dome and map lights I have the LEDs facing inwards towards the vehicle as I found them too bright shining out.

Did the first oil change at 4500kms on our 2024 Akera G25.

Used a great quality Australian oil, Penrite Enviro+ 0W 20 full synthetic. Comes in a 5L container so I have a small amount left for top up’s if required.

Filled the new oil filter up with fresh oil before installing.

Yes its well and truly early (scheduled first change is at 15,000km here in Aus) however I have always changed oil at halfway of the scheduled distance, and since this is a new engine I wanted to get clean oil in after the initial running in period. I will do another change at 10,000kms.

So do you have a 2.5L NA with CD or a 2.5T?

What is the engine oil capacity stated in your manual?

In US we have to use all oils from the 5 qt container for oil change on either engine. Even 5L container (5.283 US quarts) used in other countries that is still not enough to make the oil level to the Max mark of the dipstick for a oil change on the 2.5T. Not going to have any oil left for top up’s on either engine, and I don’t believe you have a diesel if Mazda is still selling the 2.2L diesel in Australia.

Capacity (including a filter change) stated in the manual is 4.5L for the 2.5 engine. (It states 4.8 for the 2.5T.)

So approx 4.5 is what I put in.

This put the level nicely midway between the marks on the dipstick, as per the manual which states “The level is normal if it is between the min and max marks.”
