What Guages to get?

if you get an a/f gauge then you should get a third O2 sensor to read independently the other two are always in flux trying to let the engine know :wtf: is going on. an independent one would give you the best reading...

Disclaimer: This is MY OWN OPINION and as such is fallable and subject to complete and utter failure. Get the gauges you think will look kick ass in your car with your setup.

It's not the A/F gauge that's in constant flux, it's the computer that is leaning and richening the mixture constantly. If you went to the expense of installing a third 02 sensor, it will read just like the other two (depending on where you install it) sensors.

I have oil pressure, boost and A/F gauges installed in my speed. The A/F is just there so I can watch my mixture when racing. I don't want to be hard on the boost, and for some reason my A/F ratio go lean and not know it. At least it would give me a chance to get out of the gas before the motor cooks.

EGT and Fuel Pressure are nice to know, but there isn't much you can do to effect a change in the readings, short of an adjustable FPR. A water temp is another nice gauge to have.

Get boost, oil pressure, and intake temp. And if you are getting a turbo timer (which i suggest), get the Apexi one because it is about the length of a pen and has a A/F ratio meter built into it.

Fuel Pressure is pointless.

Boost, EGT, A/F

Oil pressure is not really that needed with a stock tubo car. One you get heavey into the F/I you will start to need it.

*Edit* In car Fuel Pressure Regulator

Whats the big deal with an EGT gauge? I have no clue about them, so what would you be looking for if you were to get one. What would the gauge tell you? Thanks

Matt

if your egts start to get too hot, then you're probably starting to run lean. it's just a good check to always have.

EGT=Exhaust Gas Temp

In car fuel pressure gauges use a sending unit and are electrical, so no fuel lines are run into the cabin and are 100% safe. Check out the DEFI GB going on till the 31st in JRodhotrod's Sig.

To Razz227-fuel pressure isn't pointless if you have an adj. fpr. This is one key thing in preventing detonation.
To geo212- an air intake temp. guage would be nice but the air coming into the turbo is heated at different rates depending on how hot the turbo is. that is why an egt guage is used because it is a more accurate reading of how hot the air is that is going into the combustion chamber. The more heat there, the more chance of detonation.
To ND4MSP- i agree with you- if you're not getting deep into tuning, only a boost guage is necessary.

That's why there was an EDIT.... I meant IN CAR Fuel Pressure...

You only need it if you have 1- aftermarket fuel pressure regulator 2- upgraded fuel system (lines, injectors ect)

everyone agrees: #1 boost gauge (I like greddy's mechanical; cheap and easy)

the other guage I have is oil pressure. think about it; if you lose oil pressure and you don't shut down, something WILL break. Go electric gauge here, you don't want oil inside the car.

I don't know about Defi's a/f gauge but, greddy's is a 4 wire unit and is not true wide band, but it is much better than an autometer.

water temp is ok but, you do have the temp gauge on your dash. that's good enough to tell if you're approaching dangerously hot levels.

EGT is useful for tunning but, not a necessity in my opinion. IIRC, if you run way lean or way rich you will have low EGT's. I think high egt's come at torque peak. A wide band is useful here because you can find out if your egt's are on the rich or lean side of the torque peak. or something like that :)

It's a stock turbo'd car. How is a Oil Pressure gauge going to be any use. I never seen to use one unless there were lots of mods were you have to worry about oil pressure.

An oil pressure guage is not really necessary but you can lose oil pressure for several different reasons. It's not common on a newer car or a basically stock car. It is nice to keep tabs on it though, if you lose oil pressure the turbo can be damaged and the motor can be too. If you have lots of money invested you need to keep tabs on everything.

Does anyone actually make an intake air temp gauge??????/
That would be awsome!!!I wouldn't have to use the wds to see how the changes to my Co2 sprayer worked..
Who makes them???????

That is what i was thinking, to see how much of an improvement would a Co2 sprayer make. Forgot who made the guage but it sure was expensiveor real cheap, near $200 or $20 ( i bet it was the more expensive price).

i'm getting the autometer tripple guage pod from jegs and i am going to get the autometer phantom guages. i am deffinately getting a boost guage, but i don't know what other 2 guages to get. my turbo timer has a voltometer and a/f ratio. so i was thinking about oil pressure fuel pressure air intake or egt. the egt however is quite expensive and i don't know if i wanna spend 140 bucks on a guage right now. i'm not sure how much the intake temp cost but i do know the oil pressure and fuel pressure aren't too expensive. later down the road i am getting more guages b/c i am going to customize a pod for them above the middle air vents in the dash. prob for 2 or 3 more guages but thats down the line
