He tries. . .and if he isn't at Nick's "level" so what. Yes, he has a "day job" as most of us do,

TurfBurn said:Yeah, and because it isn't my day job I'm not out to make a buck. I haven't paid myself a dime or anyone else in NSN. I started this business with my brothers because we were all fed up with vendors who weren't helpful, didn't answer questions, and price gouged. I don't know your business needs but I've heard tale that you are making 1400 bucks on the custom gear sets that you sell for 2800 bucks. My mistake in making it personal before was I thought you were a good enough guy and respectful enough that I let the shots on the standalones slide. And this right now is just business... I'm not taking the BS against standalones anymore.

Tim took the time to tune my set up and did an awesome job at it. I know a great deal more now! In the beginning I did have some CEL's. But that was just part of the tuning process. Last time I got a CEL was around early September. I stomped on the car getting onto a freeway when still cold and threw a cel (running lean). I cleared it with my scanner and it never came back. It happened once and I learned from it. I've been running my car without CEL's for at least 5 months now. So imo the MPI works well for my type of application.
Focus said:Dude, I don't know where this comes from but nick makes nowhere near $1400 for the gearset, maybe more like $140. If you are referring to what MAM paid for his gearset, we are not talking about the same pieces.

This is the main reason I hardly even post.
Nick is by far one of the BEST tuners out there in terms of build knowledge and he has always helped me out. Is he opinionated, YES, but we all are to some extent. I can also vouch for Turfburn (obviously) as I know the guy doesn't make a profit on this stuff, he just enjoys helping others out and learning as he goes. In the past year he has done more reading and research than anyone else I know about these cars. He's measured (osc.) the ecu inputs and outputs repeatedly on several cars to figure out how to improve things. He tries. . .and if he isn't at Nick's "level" so what. Yes, he has a "day job" as most of us do, and no he doesn't have a building with NSN on the front - but that is a GOOD thing, do you want to buy car parts for a reasonable price and pay nothing more or do you want to buy car parts and pay for the brick and mortar of someone else? This doesn't mean MPI is bad, MPI is the "day job" and I admire Nick for making a living doing something many of us love or would love to do. It is awesome, but that doesn't mean that it is the only way to do business.
This forum (that I once loved) is such a pile of crap with vendor fights and bickering and members jumping from one side to the other. . .frustrating and sickening. Those that want to help get bashed, and it is a wonder that any vendor sticks around.
So, what does it mean. . .I was one of the early turbo'd cars. Running spool and then stuff from MPI. Didn't blow my motor, still have the car, runs good but not perfect, and I would have NO fear whatsoever letting Steve OR Nick work on it. This isn't Highlander. . .there doesn't have to be "only one"!
igdrasil said:I think Nick makes a lot of money out of the gearset, same story with the MPI. A lot of people will be surprised about the SMT price.
tekkie said:guys there is no proof Nick is making that much money on those gearsets, until there is why bash him?
this is why vendors leave, they are not here for free, they are here to make money like every other business
TurfBurn said:Yes, Nick can clear that up and we'll have to take him at his word regardless. Businesses have to make money. Some more than others with overhead/employees etc.
