Weird noise from Forge BPV

The saga continues.......I decided to put in the yellow spring (left in the 2 shims) instead of swapping the stocker back in. This made the noise occur even more frequently, although it is much easier to get the BPV to go off.
I am starting to wonder if maybe the noise I am hearing is the shims hitting the base plate of the BPV when it closes up??? Maybe the next step is to go back to the blue spring with no shims???
I checked out the level of grease in there and seems to be plenty, so I am dismissing the fact that it may need more lube.

I took mine apart last night -- no stains or other discoloring. I still don't see where any o-rings might be. Anyway, just for fun I put the second shim in with the blue spring. I don't know if the difference will be noticeable on my way to work. BTW, first day below 60 since I bought it in May. Wonder how much it'll like the cooler air.

Yah I didn't know what O-ring they were referring to. I really am liking the yellow spring - it releases much easier so I dont have to drive like a banshee to get it to open. But this stupid noise is getting to me. Tonight it was making a double-click every time.
Tomorrow morn the shims are coming off and I am putting the blue back in. I will report on my progress tomorrow evening.

Update: Switched to the blue spring with no shims, and the noise only occurs on rare occasions now. I think it is electrical interference possibly related to the electronic throttle deal, because it will sometimes make the noise without the BPV opening, say at like 2200-2500 rpm.

UPDATE-----solved!!
Even with just the blue spring the noise continued, so I placed the stocker back on and surprise surprise, no more noise.
I got in touch with Forge who have asked me to ship the unit back to them for repairs, but I have not even had it for a month. I feel that they should be offering me a direct replacement with no shipping costs on my end. Am I thinking a little too unreasonably? I have literally had the product for 26 days, and I have had the problem since day one of install.

Uh... yea. I'm thinking no Forge BPV for me.

there ya go .. thats a smart decision .. base your decision on one bad story about the forge BPV

I have been running mine for a few months and have had absolutely NO ISSUES .. and there are TONS of members here who will also back up the quality of the FORGE bpv ....

every product is going to have a bad egg here and there .. but by no means is the FORGE bpv a junk piece

I have no problem with the quality of the product. I just want them to replace it instead of repair it.

my response was direcred towards DaleNixon who basically made it sound like .. due to this issue .. he would be unwilling to buy it .. as if it were a hunk of crap

Good product support is just as important to me as a good quality product. I think he is right in wanting a direct replacement for a seemingly defective product he bought less than 30 days ago.

That's exactly how I feel too Dale. I just wanted to make sure I do not come off sounding too aggressive when I contact them.

I don't think it's unreasonable. Just don't be a jerk to them on the phone. I would just ask politely and explain this is what you think would be best to make things right. If they don't go for it, oh well.

Please keep us posted as this is the kind of thing that would make or break the deal for me. Thanks!

I just got off the phone with Patrick at Forge, and he is going to get me a brand new one!! I calmly explained that I had only had the valve for 24 days (I checked UPS) and he said that if it made me feel more comfortable to get a new one, then that would not be a problem at all.
A+ customer service, and hopefully I will get the A+ part that I know they produce.

That's good news! I'm now considering getting the Forge BPV again! Thanks for the update.

The shims go inside the piston, guys. If you put them in first, they block the vacuum hose opening. There was a comment about the shims possibly hitting the base plate that makes me think the unit in question may be miss-assembled.

Umm, how then sir, would you explain the phenomenon of the noise without any shims at all?
Also, nowhere in this entire post was there mention of where the shims were placed. When I originally installed the valve I used the common blue + 2 shims combo that seemed so popular. The shims and spring were all installed correctly, and after a couple of days of installation the unit made the noise. I then tried numerous combinations of springs with and without shims, and still got the undesired noise.

Good point.

"I am starting to wonder if maybe the noise I am hearing is the shims hitting the base plate of the BPV when it closes up???" - Cut and paste from one of your earlier posts.
How can the shims hit the base plate if they are inside the piston? The only other location they can go is between the spring and the cap with the air pressure reference line.
