Hey, guys, I'm back. Haven't been around for a while. Did I miss anything fun?

We need an automatic 2.0 Protege to use for fitting for a turbo kit. We can do the work either in Colorado or in Texas. We can't offer an automatic kit until we can fit one on a car! There would be a discount on the installation cost, of course...

Please contact me if you're interested.

Keith

So, you don't need another manual 2.0L for another fitting of the first kit, just to make sure it still fits?;)

Anyway, I'd take Grand junction (gorgeous) over Jersey any day. Sorry Andrew :D

there was a guy on protege club who has an auto and wanted a turbo and lived in huston....I believe sir nuke directed him towards u guys...maybe get in contact with either of them

I can freight my ride to you guys if you put up the chesse. :D
Let me know (via PM) when your auto turbos are up for sale. I want in on it. What kinda fitment problems are you running into for the auto install? Just curious. peace.

The problem is that the auto tranny is bigger. We know this, and we know the piping has to be modifed in order to clear. However, we don't have an automatic car to use to do the initial fitting. Once we've done that, there will be no fitment problems.

We will offer a discount on the installation. We can't afford to truck cars all over the country, however.

What kinda discount are we talking about? Perhaps a road trip is on order. A friend's uncle lives in colorado and I could possibly stay there while you do the install. I don't know about this one though. Road trip from MN to you guys will put miles on my ride. Don't really want that. Man, why couldn't i have lived near you, I would so put up my ride. Oh well, let me know when eta is for auto turbo. I want one.

We would need the car for a couple of weeks (we always ask for at least a week to do an install so we can debug the car). If you're serious, please contact me. It's not going to be a free kit, it'll be a discount on installation.

Not to flame, but I think they would get a better response if they offered both the turbo kit AND the installation at a reduced cost. Why wouldn't the average person wait for the "ginuea pig" to have the kit installed and then just do it themselves and save the $ on the installation. This doesn't make much sense to me unless the person is not mechanically inclined. Personally I would just wait and install it myself to save the $ and time that my car would be tied up in the shop. Just my $.02

Okay, we'll take some off the turbo kit and some off the install - but not as much as before. It's just bookkeeping, though. The total price won't change from our earlier offer. We have costs to cover.

Many people don't install their own kits. This could be because of a lack of time, mechanical knowledge, facilities or because they want it done professionally and fully debugged. We always have several customer cars in the shop getting parts installed, and most of those are not being used for prototypes.

This is not a radical, untested kit. We have to change the shape of a couple of pipes, that's all. If it was a completely unrelated kit to our existing setup, then the offer would be different.

How much do you usually charge for installation? How long do you usually keep a car for? I seriously want to add a turbo to my car. However, it will be about a year before I have the money saved. I'm figuring on $5000.

Installation is usually $1125, and we like to have the car for a week. That gives us time to tune it and ensure everything's good. If there's a problem, we'd rather find out ourselves than have you discover on the way home after a 2-day install...

Yes, off topic. The paperwork involves some pretty obscure information. Not even Garrett knew - but we tracked down the last bit yesterday. So it's off into the depths of CARB.

Keith, I am the one that has been emailing you all about the automatic kit. I have the shiftronics tranny, I bought the auto because once it is turboed they tend to run faster than a manual and revs dont drop for the spool. BUT FM said the only thing diff is the piping around the tranny. Spool Turbo said the tranny cant handle it after thier stage one.

I am very confident the tranny will hold great. I plan to run 10 psi with new rods and pisons (there is a p5 running a 13 @ 103 with 10 lbs) but i want to know your opinion on the auto tranny in the p5. Spool said dont go over stage one non intercooled, but i am not goin to run only 4 lbs.

Any help on this would be great, ecu diff? i know the mp3 with advanced timing will diff, but i will leave mine where its at and that will make it run just a tad rich but only talking 1- 2 hp in that range.

anyways thanks in advance. - Travis

I don't have any experience with the automatic transmission in the Protege, so I can't offer any meaningful information. There is a 1.8 auto running around with one of our kits on it and running 6 or 8 psi, and it's doing just fine.
