IF ANYONE HAS A TICKING NOICE COMING FROM THERE ENGINE TAKE IT TO MAZDA.
myne noice was in a sertaing RPM and only during sertain load conditinons. the higher i went into the RPM the worst it got as well. i thought i was a lifter out of adjustment, but was i wrong.
The #3 and #4 rod bearing where completely shot. According to mazda, however they wouldnt show me the findings, and i had to talk to the teck. who worked on my car about it.

i had a crazy noise knock like this but only when cold and around at 1000 rpm only... could this be samething.. this def. was normal ticking or injector noise eihter... dealer flashed as answer.. hmm me thinks.. it was a temp fix.. not a cure...

I was about to say, take it to the dealer. So are you getting your motor rebuilt or getting a new one?

When I first start my car it makes a ticking noise but goes away after warm up what could this be? possibly the same?

Wasted rod bearing can never be confused with valve ticking. Ticking is ticking and rod knock is most definitely not ticking. Rod knock will also not go away at higher RPM's it just gets louder and it sounds like someone hitting your engine block really hard with a hammer. How well do you trust your dealer? I'm not convinced he's telling you the truth. I've destroyed a rod bearing in a FS-DE motor and killing a rod bearing will also make the car run like crap since 1 piston is slightly out of timing with the other 3. If you had 2 rod bearings go out then you would have really noticed. Loosing a rod bearing also doesn't start quiet and get louder over the course of several days. It's either quiet and normal or it's toast and making an ass load of noise...there is no in between.

yeah i got a new engine from mazda under warranty.

and its hard to tell the diff. between certain problems in the engine unless its something that has been going on for a wile. i think that the bearing barely started going out when i took it to the dealer. the noice got worst and worst the more i drove it but i let the problem go for about 5-6K before i took it in.

ive had an rpm dependant (2.5-3.5) minor rattle noise for over 20k miles, with hundreds of canyon runs and a track day (13 mpg, woot) im not worried. the facker is just noisy.

thats what myne was like, at 2.5-3K it would make a noice or if i went WOT it would do it at 5K-redline.

ive never had any WOT noise in any rpm. hell i hit the rev limiter like 12+ times at the track, always had the rpms above 4.5k

so i guess there was a different source of the sound.

"rattle" noise

I too am suffering from a "noise" from the engine compartment. When I accelerate hard (I am not sure of exact RPMs) I get what sounds like pop tabs rattling around in a coke can. As soon as my car "settles down" (the RPMs lower due to shifting or whatever) the noise goes away. I didn't notice this until I took off the snorkel. Any comments?

Well, its going to go to the dealer this weekend for schedules maintanence anyhow, so I will have them look at it. My dealer is pretty good, so getting them to check it out should be no big deal.

Also, I did some "testing" yesterday and it only seems to happen between 4000-5000 rpm and more often when the rpm is dropping after the car has shifted into first.

fuel

(yupnope) Ok..."Bindy" is going to the dealer on Saturday no matter what, but I called the dealer and told them what was going on and even asked about the VTCS thing and the possibility of a "lost" screw..... I was told that they definately would check it out, but the guy asked me if I was using PREMIUM FUEL....I said no and he suggested that I try it and said that it may be the fuel. My boyfriend then agreed, suggesting that these cars have "knock sensors" which detects when fuel burns before the plug fires....which can happen because of not enough octane.... which (octane) makes fuel not burn as easily. I buy it. What could be happening is that when the car is warmed up....under high revs, the fuel is igniting before the spark plug fires...hence the sound I hear. The also goes along with the suggestion of a "bad tank of gas"....which I am told, makes a similar sound. It is definately something to consider. Unfortunately I just filled up, so I will update in a week when I get more gas and she's been to the dealer.

and the dealer said....

All is well. Put the snorkel back on and switched to middle grade fuel and no more "ticking"......who knows.

yeah you should run mid. grade fuel. It says it in the manual.
However you wont hear an auduble detonation unless your car is having some MAJOR issues.
However i talked to the service manager at my dealership, and she said that just in 2005 they have replaced about a 1/2 dozen FS-DE's for the same reason as mine....can someone say "recal"
