Trannies

I now there have been multiple threads about transmissions, but i couldn't find what i was looking for in my seardh.

I've heard the MSP tranny is the same one in P5's and MP3's is this correct? If so, why put a weak transmission in a boosted car?

Also has anyone noticed in Proteges with manual transmissions that our 3rd gear seems geared considerably lower than the first 2? I can fly through my first two gears, then when i shift into third the revs drop way down, and it almost struggles to ge back up. This is usually where cars catch up and pass me in races.

My mp3(when it was stock) was always geared funny where it would bog down changing to 2nd. I got cold air intake and it picked up low end 2nd alot.

The Mazdaspeed is only 170hp at the crank. There really is no need for a stronger tranny, just a better clutch. I think a lot of the problems people have been having here have been from shifting too hard (you can still shift fast without slamming it into gear), drag racing, and just by a lot of spirited driving. And of course the occaisional odd ball that just breaks.

I have ~28,000 miles on my tranny and have driven it quite hard at times for the last 2 years. But I never slam the shifter into gear, and it feels like new to me.

I think mine still feels great too, but i think third gear is a little under-powered... ? It feels like i should be able to pull harder through that gear than i actually do. Oh well, I suppose a turbo could quench my thirst for power :D
