Here is the crappy ass time line of my 4 month old 3s:

3/18/04 - Check engine light - faulty gascap, place on order - as well as glove box

3/25/04 - Check engine light - replace gas cap run drive cycle, no codes, flash pmc - AMB reading on stereo, pull fuse and rest system, no more AMB

4/07/04 - Check engine light - replace purse valve and vacuum tube

5/04/04 - Check engine light - no problem found under inspection, order another new glove box

5/25/04 - Check engine light - replace sensor and fuel hose, run Check engine light comes on again, reset pcm, Check engine light is gone, told to return again if CHeck engine light comes on again.

I don't know about anyone else but this is bull crap.... also last week when my car had the second glovebox put in my dealship put a 2 inch scratch in the roof through the paint, I was told they can only try to buff it out, which they tried and it is still there (obviously). Let me know what you guys think.

Welcome to the world of Mazda Maintenance, and owning a first year car. Im sorry to hear about this bro, but it does not surprise me in the least that the 3 has issues. I know your not the only one with CEL's poppin on constantly in thier 3.

Call Mazda NA, and b****. Keep detailed documents on the issues, and go for a lemon law if the same issue happens 3 times.

That really sucks, I hope that I do not run into this.

I have 4000KM on the car now, have had it 2 months. Have not yet run into any issues. I hope to keep it this way.

it's 1st year production...it lasted for both 03 and 04 Mz6....fuel odor...cel for random s***....rust on doors...irratic cooling fan....heat from fogs expantion. the 1st one sounds like gas cap not tightened all the way. now as for the scratch...did they even use the touch up paint they were supose to give you?
if not even that then it sounds like the dealership is in question more than the 1st year production!!!

My self, till now, the problems with my Mazda 3 GT

Faulty airbag sensors - Needed replacement

Defective fuel pump - Needed replacement too

And my brake calipers are all rusted out, I have one of the first vehicles on the road and notice that the newer ones have different calipers, I am going to b**** about that the rust,

My front rotors have grooves in them, rust in the grooves, I am sure that is not normal, I will also b**** about that, and like everyone else, the A/C is a piece of s***

dude if your dealership scratches your car it is their responsibilty to pay for it. go in and tell them if you accidently put a baseball bat thru his kneecap, who would be responsible for paying? i'd look into going to a reputable dealer

I have made 4 trips to the dealer, 2 calls to 800 222 5500 and 6 e-mails to Mazda customer service.

3 Check engine lights problems, the brake issue, an AC that will not cool worth s*** and now my auto tranny 1-2 shift is starting to get very harsh - and is producting a nice loud clunk the first two or three shifts in the morning.

My MPG was 22 - but after the last CEL fix it has dropped down to 19. My Tahoe gets 16 - and my full size 4x4 gets 15MPG - I sure thought a 4 banger would do better than this. (blarf)

Mazda has not even sent a reply to my last two E-mails - they have told me to go see the states attorney general for my options.

Mazda treats its customers like crap - I will never buy another Mazda product.

I agree with you even though I am happy with my car despite it's problems. First year reliability on this car is EXTRMELY poor, the POOREST I have ever seen on a first year model, I mean come on this is outrageous. I will probably get something higher end next time, like a Lexus, The IS300 is pretty sweet.

as for the 1-2 shift...in rush hour traffic does it feel like you are being rearended alil...that sounds like an outdated pcm....tell them to upgrade the programming that should get rid of it or indicate the tranny is no more...

reputable dealer?! there's no Mazda reputable dealer here in Montreal, Canada (chair) If there's one, please, show me where they are!

well sorry dont live in montreal. but if ther are no reputable dealers why did u buy the thing in the first place. i'd never buy a car from a shady business.

engine checklight- purge valve

I have the mazda3s for a month now and the engine checklight came up. Brought it into the dealer and had it checked out. Took them 4 hours to figure out that the purge valve was bad (sticking). Had it replaced and the engine is now fine. Another problems was the glove compartment. It seems to vibrate and make a squeaky noise on rough road surfaces. The noise is gone when the glove compartrment is left open or pressed hard against. Also brought this issue to the dealer. They looked at it , but said they are unable to do anything about it, since it isn't broken. Bull Crap! I paid thousands of dollars for this car and it's new. This things are not expected to happen to new car. Sorry for this long message. I have to vent.

I wish I had not traded my car in for a Mazda3s

I really regret trading my old car in for a mazda3s. I have had several problems with it. First was the engine checklight, noisy glove compartment, and did I mention that the automatic transmission did the engage after waiting in traffic light. I had to restart the car in order to get the transmission to engage. I think the built quality of the north american mazda3s is of poor quality. Mazda should perform high QC on this product before shipping it out to the dealership!!!!

Gawd Damn (confused) thats alot of complaints on just a 1st year production. The 6 wasn't that bad and it's been in accidents! the one thing I don't understand is that this isn't the ford trannys....tose were expected to act like this! Keep taking it back and complain is the only way you will get things done...sad but true.

Maybe I shouldn't jinx myself, but I've had my 3 since early Dec '03, and it now has about 11,000 miles on it. ONLY problem I've had is the faulty airbag sensor, which they replaced and gave me a loaner car for (loaner was a Protege basic. Yuckkkk. But the price was right). MPG is a steady 25. Handles great. Needs an alignment, but thats not a manufacturer problem. My only complaint with the dealership (and I think this is normal for all new car dealers) is the amount of garbage that they mail me. "Was your service okay" Did we offer free, bad coffee? "Let us know how we're doing!!!" Bahhhhh, leave me alone! I'll think thrice about buying another new car just because of the junkmail they generate. Like I owe THEM anything...

What's with you guys and the billions of problems with your cars?

Did you expect a luxury vehicle for $17k? Yeah, the A/C isn't that great, but it still keeps me cool in the summers. The airbag light is just being plain picky. It goes away after 10 or so startups. The rear brakes, I can agree. That's defninitely a PITA. I'm starting to get grooves now, so I may just just get that done for free.

The only other problem I've had with the car is the 2nd to 3rd gear shift. Honestly, I thinks that my own fault. I'm used to finding the gears, in the 3 it just slips right in.
