Nathan G said:The airbag light is just being plain picky. It goes away after 10 or so startups. The rear brakes, I can agree. That's defninitely a PITA. I'm starting to get grooves now, so I may just just get that done for free.
goldwing2000 said:So a faulty safety system that could cause you to die is "being picky" but dirty wheels is a legitimate complaint? (screwy)
And no... the airbag light does not go away after 10 or so startups. The problem is caused by a faulty crash sensor and they don't just magically fix themselves. If the airbag light is on, the system is disabled.
Nathan G said:Is it the light or the entire airbag system? :eek3: I was thinking it was just the light. (eekdance)
Well mine did. It stayed on for 10 or so startups and then it went away. I haven't seen it get stuck since. (dunno)
goldwing2000 said:Wait... are you talking about the light in the gauge cluster or the light on the console for the passenger bag?
If the light in the gauge cluster is on, the whole SRS system is disabled.
Kain said:This is going to stink like an "I told you so", but this is why you don't buy first-year models.
Nathan G said:The light in the console. I haven't gotten one from the cluster.
oh... (sssh) Well stupid me.goldwing2000 said:Ok, that's totally different that the problem we've been discussing. The light on the console is supposed to come on and off depending on the weight load in the seat. The one in the cluster should come on for about 4 sec at startup then stay off.

If you put something 10lbs or heavier on the passenger seat (like a bookbag w/ books in it) the console light will come on to tell you the air bag is off. The light on the cluster is for the entire system and if It is on you have no airbags at all. This is the light Mazda is currently dealing with thanx to a faulty sensor.Nathan G said:oh... I can virtually guarantee you that there will be less problems in future model years of the 3 than its inaugral year. Problems always exist, but I'm talking about the sheer volume of problems current 3 owners are experiencing. Hell, I should know about problems; this is the 3rd year of the Spec V and my car is currently getting a new radiator installed... after 7 days of ownership. But talk to 2002 Spec V owners, and they've run the triathalon of TSBs, cats destroying engines and transmission problems... things that got worked out for 2004.goldwing2000 said:Right. Because cars don't have problems after the first model year, right? That's why they have to release new models... to keep the service departments employed. (spin)
