The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

So I truly think I'm cursed with cars right now.... On my way back from lunch the valves or timing chain started to chatter like a mofo on Whitney just outside my office... I'm without a running/working car... **** me :( I give up

Those tempermental bitches! Sorry to hear man and what bad timing that is. Time for a vacation day or two to get the redhead up and running earlier than anticipated? Wish you the best in sorting it out.

If someone starts following, I never go to my intended destination. If I have nothing better to do I will follow someone who pissed me off, their facial expressions change real quick when they figure it out, I go a little further with them then end it. Make them think twice about ******* with someone, which is just what that guy did to you lol!

I've been known to do that before too, if the wife and kids aren't with me.

Since I'm working most of the time, I keep it either in the glove box or in my backpack.
I can't lock my glove box and I like to keep my windows down so that's a no-go. I haven't been wearing it on the bike but I never thought about putting it in my backpack. Not as accessible but would work I guess.

I have a lockbox under the front seat that is hooked to the seat using a 5000lb strength cable that I use when needed. Out of sight and would take some work or big pair of bolt cutters to get it out

There's some weird flat tire stuff under mine. FAIL

I think most people on the road aren't out to be assholes, but their driving habits certainly make them look like it. Trying to give them a hint of any kind will usually perceive you as aggressive, and some Looney ones might even wanna come after you.

I feel like driving tests should be redesigned and renewed frequently. In my country, it will cost you about $750 to get your license and several days until you pass. You also have to do a poor weather test (rain) and one at night. Do we still have assholes on the road? Absolutely.... But at least everyone stays in the right god damn lane

Know what makes me kinda sad? I sold the MSM to Levi and he had major issues with it. Now his other car is acting up for him. I sometimes feel like I wish I would have sold the car to someone else that I don't give a s*** about because I feel like a complete s*** for the issues he's had with it. What goes thru my head is "Man, I can't believe you sold one of your best friends a car that was apparantly a ticking time bomb. What kind of a dick are you?"

And it's officially killed my desire to work on my own cars again. :(

dude, s*** happens... Thats life, you couldnt have ever predicted the s*** would happen. I aint mad atcha!
All the parts have already been ordered to get the redhead back on the road in the next week or two depending on the manpower/help i have to put the motor back in. Look at it this way, selling to me meant it went to a good home and to an owner that would put the time, money and effort into getting it to run right, regardless of the timing
im less worried about the MSM as that was bought as a fun/summer car, i mean yea it sucks ive driven it 4 times since March but again thats life... the one that has me worried right now is ol faithful, the trusty DD 3.
once i have one working car ill come out a weekend and we'll start wrenching on the civic and hopefully motivate you again!

I used to mess with people who tailgated me on the highway... Until I encountered a particularly crazy guy who proceeded to follow me all the way to work. Too many crazies out there, you never know what they are going to do. I'm not going to get shot over people driving like idiots. I'll just get out of there way and go on with my day.
I had someone do that once. He actually followed me as I drive around aimlessly for more than 10 minutes. I finally pulled into some store's parking lot like I was going to stop and when he tried to come up along side of me I mashed the throttle, spun the rear end around and took off. He tried to block me, which is funny, because I was in my old 4x4 Tacoma and he was in a Fox-body Mustang. If it came to it, I would have actually run over him. To this day I still have no idea what set him off.

I agree whole-heartedly. It should cost like $1000 to initially get your license and the tests need to be much more difficult. Instead of simply renewing your license every 4 years you should also have to take a simplified test and pay a (larger) fee. I know this won't happen because people will claim it'll lead to discrimination but it'd certainly lead to safer driving.

i dont think it needs to cost more, kids cant hardly afford to eat out at that age let alone drop a grand to drive... what i am in favor of is making everyone retake a written test and pass a driving test every 10 year or something like that to keep some of these idiots off the roads hahah

I am with V as well. In this country anyone can get a license! In Europe, you have to not only take a driving test, etc, but you must understand vehicle dynamics as well, literally it is like getting a competition license for SCCA, IMSA, etc.

I guess is that really a problem though? Making it cost more will separate those who NEED a license from those who merely get one because they can. I got my license about 3 weeks after I turned 16 but I probably could have gone without up until my junior year of college. Maybe $1000 is too much but it needs to be more than it is now. I can't recall what I paid but Driver's Ed was freely taught at public high schools so all I had to pay was for the driven test and the processing fees. Either way, any additional fee is going to have certain people claiming discrimination.

10 years is also probably a little excessive. Maybe it should be at different intervals based on perceived maturity? Something like; first test at 16, second at 18, third at 21 and then like every ten years after that. Interval should drop to five years at 55 and then perhaps every one-two years at 65. I'm just trying to think who most needs "refreshing."

I'm with V as well. It would be an annoyance, but if it led to safer drivers I would renew my license every year just like I do my car registration. The test needs to be more difficult though. I'd also like to see police officers enforce the rules of the road other than just speeding.

16, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70

think about it, ALOT can change in those ten years to allow you to build up bad driving habits. 20-30 you could go from single to married with kids and distractions from kids makes a big difference as oppoesed to driving alone every day. Make the test stringent and make renewals match those intervals for testing, photo changes can happen every 5 or something but the test allows you to keep the license for the next 10.

is it a bit excessive, maybe. BUT i also think its the best way to handle/eliminate bad drivers... making it more expensive isnt neccessarily the way to go about it. alot of good drivers and hard working people live paycheck to paycheck as is, if they lose thier license because they cant afford it... that doesnt help anyone

the driving classes are no longer taught in school as a class, say goodbye to the 70's. But it costs $310 for the course, more depending on where you live and the school. Cloverleaf is 310 Medina is 610. I feel that a drivers test should be issued at the same time as renewing your license (every 4 years). I would have no problem with that. There are plenty of old people that should not be on the road. Let alone the young people that are just out right stupid. If you're under 25 and get caught texting, or driving erratically your license should be revoked right there on the side of the road.

Do you have a Crystal Ball? Anyone that knows you, knows that you are not the type of person that looks to take advantage of your friends and family! You know how much of a pain our cars can be! You are always one of the first to offer to help people, so much so, that you sometimes put off your own projects. You know the MSM went to someone you know and trust, not to someone that wouild came back on you and said that you screwed them!

Levi had know way of knowing that his 3 was going to have issues, neither did you. Levi knows the MSM and the inherent issues with FI Cars.......give yourself a break!

I was fortunate as my parents taught me how to drive and I went to a Professional driving school, not the high school crap. As far as the "Senior Drivers" renewal thing goes, the AARP has the largest and most effective lobby in the country, they won't let anything like that happen. I do think that teenage drivers should have curfews and should have restricted hours of when they can have passengers in the car. I think more parents should look into the Street Survival Schools that Tire Rack puts on with the SCCA, Drive Team, The Mid-Ohio Schools, programs along those lines.
